I live and work in Harrisburg, PA. I travel quite a bit and have stayed in Airbnbs in several places including Canada, Spain, India, Great Britain and Israel. Based on my experiences in these places, I decided to be an Airbnb hostess here in Harrisburg, incorporating into my offering what I liked most about the places I have stayed.
I am offering a two bedroom furnished house, complete with a kitchen, in a diverse, family-oriented, working class, quiet neighborhood (although occasionally, passing vehicles on the street may have their music volume turned on a little bit too high in the summer!), at an affordable rate here in Harrisburg.
One of my main requirements when I travel on a budget, is CLEANLINESS. Julia's place is welcoming clean space. It is your home away from home.
When a guest books Julia's Place, I immediately begin to run through my mind, the questions I have, when I am going to be an airbnb guest in my travels:
1) Will the host be friendly?
2) Will the general atmosphere of the space be welcoming and
3) Will the space be clean?
4) Will the bed be comfortable?
5) Will the beddings be clean and freshly laundered?
6) Will the bathroom be clean?
7) Will I be able to take a shower right away if I need to?
8) Will I have access to internet with my electronic device?
9) Will there be snacks to munch on till I find out where I can eat?
10) Would I need to walk a long distance in order to access a public
transportation system (if one exists)?
11) Might I have to deal with some huge or small unfriendly pet?
12) What if for reasons beyond my control, I arrive a bit later than the check-
in time or have to leave a bit later than the checkout time, will the host
impose an additional fee?
The answer to questions 1-9 is a resounding YES! The answer to questions 10-12 is also a resounding NO!
With this mind-set, I believe I shall be a good host, making sure that you (my guest(s)) are as comfortable as possible in a NICE, CLEAN space. My motto? - 'Clean Spaces Have Possibilities". As my guest, Julia's Place shall be your 'Home away from Home' during your stay.
I do love to travel and so far have been in most of the continents on the planet except South America and Australia! I hope to make it there someday. Besides adventure travelling, I love gardening and taking long walks in parks. I walk or ride my bike along the beautiful Susquehanna River almost every day and on weekends in the summer. In the cold months, I walk in the malls! Incidentally, Julia's Place is only about 15 minutes from the two major malls in Harrisburg. The Colonial Park Mall and the Harrisburg Mall.
Regarding gardening, it's October and the growing season has come to an end. I enjoyed a bountiful harvest of cucumbers and Okra from Julia's garden and enjoyed sharing the produce with my guests and friends. As we move in steadily and surely into the cold season. I am looking forward to spring (already!) when I shall start planting again. My guests in the summer months will be able to enjoy the produce from my Julia's garden such as fresh tomatoes, cucumbers etc.
I love to read; not just any thing, my preference is a compelling story that I would find hard to put down till I finish it, like Adichie's "The Purple Hibiscus". I have several hardback and paperback novels in the lounge room upstairs and downstairs for my guests who need something to read during their stay. Also if you are reading a good book and you finish it while at Julia's and want to donate it to the collection for others to enjoy, that would be great!
I love movies with surprising twists at the end, like M. Night Shymalan's "The Sixth Sense"; action movies with sympathetic heroes like Jason Bourne in the Bourne Trilogy; and folksy magical movies like "The Secret of Roan Inish". I like compelling foreign movies like "Children of Heaven", "The Namesake", "the Life of Pie" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo". I have a DVD player and TV in the space. I also have a collection of movies available for guests who wish to watch movies.
I also love to write - Not that I will ever show my writings to anyone!
If you are an aspiring writer or just making entries into your journal, I invite you to relax in the bedrooms or sit in the lounge area upstairs or downstairs and write.
Finally, I have an eclectic taste in music. I can just as easily loose myself in a Mozart's Romantic Interlude as I can to Aretha Franklin's 'Spirit in the Dark', to Bonnie Raitt's 'Feels Like Home', to Ali Farka Toure's 'The River' to Tu Pac's ode to his mother - 'Dear Mama'. There is an old-fashioned CD/Cassete player in the lounge room upstairs as well as a collection of CDs for your enjoyment. If you like, you can bring your own CDs for your listening pleasure during your stay at Julia's Place.
