About this listing

Everything for your getaway--whether it's a night, a weekend or a week! Just over 1.5 miles to Weko Beach on Lake Michigan. Steps from downtown Bridgman and close to Sawyer, Buchanan, Four Winds Casino, Warren Dunes, Three Oaks, St. Joseph & New Buffalo! Check out the local wineries, like Tabor Hill and Round Barn, and the breweries, like Tapistry, Transient Artisan Ales, Cultivate, Haymarket and Greenbush, and some great restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner, too!

The space

Two bedroom, one bathroom classic 1950s ranch home that's only 86 miles from downtown Chicago in the town of Bridgman, MI which is Exit 16 in Michigan---16 miles from the Indiana/Michigan border on Interstate 94. The kitchen and bathroom in the house and the side porch have been gut rehabbed and professionally designed. The living room also was completely renovated from paint to lighting to a dining table and a new couch!

Central heat and a/c, off-street parking on driveway, large yard, outdoor fireplace, washer/dryer, cable TV and wi-fi. Linens and towels are provided. A king size California style/platform bed is in the master bedroom, and a queen size bed is in the guest bedroom. The living room has an L-shaped couch which works well if you need another 'single bed'---I end up sleeping there often when I have friends visit, and I find it quite comfortable. There's a large porch off the sliding glass door on the side of the house, as well as a back deck off another sliding glass door that goes off the master bedroom in the back of the house.

Check out the wineries, bike trails, restaurants, galleries and a whole lot more that Southwest Michigan has to offer. Bridgman is 15 miles from New Buffalo and the Four Winds Casino, 10 miles from St. Joseph/Benton Harbor, and very convenient to Stevensville, Sawyer, Harbert, Union Pier, Buchanan, Three Oaks, Niles, South Bend (IN) and all the quaint Michigan towns that 1000s of visitors go enjoy all year long!

Check out the new HAYMARKET BREWERY---great patio which is dog friendly! TAPISTRY Brewery and Transient Artisan Ales are located in downtown Bridgman, and the very popular Greenbush Brewery is located in downtown Sawyer. Also, Lake Street Eats is now open in downtown Bridgman. Tabor Hill Winery is located in the country between Bridgman and Baroda--and is set in a beautiful location with a great restaurant that is open year-round! Walk up the street to D'Agostino's and the Navajo Lounge---busy almost every night of the week! Couple great little breakfast spots in town, too--the greasy spoon downtown called Eric's, and a newer spot on Red Arrow Highway.....but, my favorites for breakfast are Luisa's next to the Swedish Bakery in Harbert and the Blue Plate Cafe in Lakeside--in the summer, you can eat on the patio with your dog, too!

And, of course, the most visited tourist attraction is LAKE MICHIGAN which is walking distance from the house--albeit it's about 1.25 miles....walk west along Lake Street from the house, and Lake Street ultimately ends at Lake Michigan! Bridgman has a beautiful sandy beach called WEKO Beach, and a beachhouse is also located at the beach. Each night in the summer at sundown, taps is played LIVE!

There's a convenient grocery store in town called HARDING's and a RITE AID drug store next to the Harding's, or if you need a larger grocery store, there's a huge 24 hour Meijer store in Stevensville--at Exit 22, or just go north on Red Arrow Highway about six miles until you see the Meijer.

If you're looking for more sleeping space, you can consider renting my other house in Bridgman which shares a driveway with this ranch house--I call the other house a 'cottage' and it's also listed on airbnb, and it can provide another sleeping area for you and your guests if you're traveling with more people.

The house IS pet-friendly, though no animal lives there full-time. YOU MUST PROVIDE ME THE BREED, AGE and WEIGHT OF ANY PET or PETS YOU ARE BRINGING TO THE HOUSE FOR ME TO CONSIDER WHETHER THE PET WILL BE ALLOWED AT MY HOUSE. No dogs over 80 pounds are allowed, and no more than two dogs are allowed. Any pet under 50 pounds is $20/night/pet; and any pet over 50 pounds is $30/night/pet. The pet fee must be paid at the time of booking. Any pet at my house without paying the pet fee will result in the full forfeiture of the deposit paid for your trip.

Guest access

The whole house is yours during your stay!

Check out time is NO LATER THAN NOON. If you wish to extend your check out up to 5 PM, then an additional $50 is charged to you. If you wish to extend your check out after 5 PM, an additional night must be reserved.

Interaction with guests

Sometimes I meet guests when they arrive--occasionally I'm staying in the adjacent cottage during your stay.

Other things to note

The kitchen and bathroom were gut rehabbed--as shown in the pictures. The living room and side porch have also been substantially renovated.

There is one king size bed and one queen size bed. Also, the couch is fairly comfortable for one person to sleep on---and, there's room for an airbed in the living room, but I don't have one to offer; you'd have to bring your own airbed.

If you are sensitive to night time noise, there is a train track behind the houses across the street. The train blows its horn at the main intersection in Bridgman and the intersection down the street--you WILL hear the train and its horn overnight---until you are used to it, or unless you sleep very well! Also, there is a sump pump in the basement as the water level in the town of Bridgman is high--and may be disturbing to some guests though there are times, of course, when it rarely runs, and other times when it runs frequently.

Book this place and fast! We couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. This house is decked out with the coolest decor, fire pit and outdoor seating areas galore. The home is stocked with high end everything. Promise to be back for a visit at this humble home. We loved every second of our visit to Bridgman.

Brian and Bruce's place is great! It is VERY clean and has all the amenities you'd want. They provide lots of towels, bathroom necessities, blankets, and kitchen needs. The bedrooms are nicer than the pictures portray. They have a huge, flat screen TV with cable provided. Our favorite beach was Warren Dunes State Park. It's within 2-3 miles of their house. Weko beach was also great, but we were there too early in the season. Their bathrooms weren't open yet which was our main reasoning for heading to Warren Dunes. There are a few adorable spots to check out when visiting. Our favorites were: Tapistry Brewery (just around the corner from the house), Haymarket Brewery (4 min drive), Luisa's (8 min drive-for breakfast, baked goods or lunch), Greenbush Brewery (10 min drive), and the Sandpiper gift shop (just around the corner from their house-local artisans sell products here!). Yes, we like beer and food!

Thanks Sarah! Glad you enjoyed the area! By the way, you can walk to Haymarket--just go over the railroad tracks to the right of the house, and follow the path that goes left directly to Haymarket--almost faster to walk there than to drive there! You hit a lot of my favorites!

Definitely recommend staying at Brian...And Bruce, The Coonhound's place. It's a wonderful home and is very close to the beach, dunes, wineries and breweries. What else do you need?!

The house was totally wonderful. Quirky in the absolute best way. Our kids 6, 4, 3, and 1 stayed at the house with us. Our kids are used to sharing a room, two shared the bed, one slept on a sleeping bag on the floor, and we had a pack-n-play in the room. There was plenty of room for all of us. Plenty of dishes, blankets, and pillows. There is a train in town, but we always bring a small fan or noise machine for ours and they slept through it just fine. Brian got back with us quickly and gave us all the info we needed. We loved this spot and look forward to returning and renting this house and his smaller cottage in the future with friends. We would definitely recommend this location!!

We went up here for a weekend of wine and beer tasting with another couple. We couldn't have asked for a better location! There were two breweries, Tapistry and Transient, that were walkable, and many more breweries and wineries that were a short drive away. The kitchen was well equipped and the layout was perfect for relaxing. Brian was great at communicating and check-in and check-out were both easily done.

We fell in love with Brian and Bruce's adorable home. The place was spotless and we felt right at home. The location was perfect, we could walk downtown to all the hot spots! Brian was great and Bruce paid us a little visit to say hello! We'll be back as soon as possibly!

I'm a retired patent attorney who has lived in Chicago for over 20 years. Currently, I split my time between Chicago and NYC. I spend much of my time traveling with my dog, a treeing walker coonhound named Bruce--whose videos can be found on by subscribing to his channel BruceAlmightyCoonhound. Together, we spend about 20 weeks per year in NYC, and also relax in Southwest Michigan, Miami, London---or any destination that I've never been since I like traveling to new places. I enjoy meeting new people, dining out, hanging out with friends, traveling, biking, skiing, shopping--especially at thrift stores, interior design, art, museums, college and professional sports--both the Chicago Cubs and the White Sox, theater and movies. I LOVED the musical HAMILTON, and I have tickets to see it for the second time in August 2017!

Come enjoy Chicago and stay in an eclectic area near the neighborhoods of Wicker Park, Bucktown, Logan Square, Avondale and Humboldt Park--and just one block from the Belmont El Stop on the Blue Line.

My vacation homes in Bridgman, MI are an easy drive from Chicago if you're looking for a get away--only about 1.5 hours from Chicago and just a mile off the beautiful beaches of Lake Michigan!

My apartment in NYC is perfect for a group of three or four who are looking for their own bedrooms and having two full bathrooms, as well as a kitchen and living area to gather!
