Description

The space

Private, spacious cottage in a clearing surrounded by beautiful woods. Gorgeous all year round. The local area holds everything from hiking to opera, or you can just enjoy the peaceful seclusion nature's surroundings have to offer!

Guest access

The entire cottage is yours for the duration of your stay. We provide keys, located in a lockbox, so that you can come and go as you please once you arrive. You have access to the outdoor swimming pool and the entirety of the 11 acres that the cottage, as well as the owners' private house, is located on.

Interaction with guests

Our housekeeper, Julie, prepares the cottage for you beforehand, ensuring that it's ready at the preset check in time, and comes to clean after your preset check out time. She does not come during your stay, however, unless there's an emergency. Upon confirmation of booking, we provide you with a code for the lockbox so that you can come and go as you please once you've arrived. Julie's number is listed for you on a contact information sheet in the cottage, should you have any concerns while you're there. The owners, Lisa & Doren, stay in their private house, located on the same property, during weekends and longer during the summer. Their number is also listed for you on the information sheet. You can also feel free to contact the cottage's booking manager, Amanda, through email or at the main contact number, both of which are provided after booking. She is located in the NYC office, available M-TH, and can answer any questions you have as well. You might see Julie, the owners, or our groundskeeper Ed around the property occasionally, but you have full privacy otherwise.

The neighbourhood

The cottage is located in a clearing on 11 acres of woods. On the property, you have access to hiking and bike trails, the swimming pool, an outdoor gas grill, and a canoe to take with you on any excursions you might have on the surrounding lakes and rivers. Locally, you'll find yourself close to many swimming, fishing, and canoeing areas. There's also golf courses open during the spring-fall, places for cross-country skiing during the winter months, and we provide ski poles and snow shoes for any winter hiking trips! The charming town of Oneonta is only a 15 minute drive away, with the larger Cooperstown a slightly longer 30 minute drive. Both have wonderful local restaurants and shopping. Cooperstown is also the home of the Baseball Hall of Fame, Dream Park, and Glimmerglass Opera!

Getting around

Having a car is a must if you're wanting to explore beyond the cottage and its property. You have access to a private driveway, and parking is available in all the local towns so you can leave the car and explore on foot!

Other things to note

There is laundry onsite, located in a small shed beside the cottage. During the winter months, we shut it off because the shed, unlike the cottage, is not heated and the pipes freeze otherwise.

Currently, there is no wireless internet, and we've never had a guest with a necessity for one during their stay with us. However, if this is something you definitely need, please let us know and we will look into setting it up. Many of the local cafes and businesses offer wireless internet.

For long-term rentals, rates are subject to change depending upon the length of stay and number of occupants. Rates may increase during peak season and Cooperstown Hall of Fame weekend (July 24th-27th), but notice would be given, if this is the case, well in advance!

House Rules
No smoking
Check in is anytime after 3PM

No smoking inside the cottage; outside only, please. Pets require an additional fee. Upon departure, please be sure that all trash and recyclables have been sorted and placed in the outdoor bins, away from the elements and the critters! Please also lock the door and place the keys back in the lockbox.

Our arrival and departure times are 3PM and 10AM, respectively. This gives our housekeeper, Julie, enough time to thoroughly clean before and after your stay. We are of course willing and able to make exceptions, provided they are given well in advance, and both previous bookings as well as Julie's schedule allow us to do so!

The cottage was exactly what my group hoped it would be. We were in town for a wedding and stayed at Westwood two nights. I'm so glad we stayed here instead of booking hotel rooms. We were able to spend some time hanging out all together in the living room or outside around the fire pit. The beds were very comfortable, and the hosts were extremely thoughtful - from the towels folded neatly in each bedroom to the cornbread and coffee welcome package on the dining table. Because we were busy with wedding events, we didn't take much advantage of the kitchen, but the coffee maker was certainly appreciated. Interaction with the manager on Airbnb was super easy and pleasant, even when I kept adding people to our reservation. All nine in our group were very pleased with our stay, so thank you Westwood!

We had a great time at the cottage! Three families shared it over a week's time. It was very welcoming when we arrived. We had enough space and were comfortable. The neighborhood is quiet and my husband and I enjoyed getting some exercise running the hills. We also enjoyed having a swim in the pool to cool off, particularly the kids. The laundry facility was extremely helpful. Overall it was a lovely experience!

There were nine of us who stayed over Amanda's home during the weekend, and hands down we all agree that it was a lovely experience. Nice, secluded spot where you can really disconnect and relax! It rained then snowed when we came, so we couldn't explore the woods or swim in the pool, which is too bad! There's a fire pit and a big front lawn that's perfect for a large group or even just peaceful stargazing for the summer. Special props to the housekeeper Julie who left us some amazing banana bread and who drove out to the house on a Sunday to help us out when we ran out of toilet paper!

Hello and welcome to Westwood Guest Cottage's Airbnb profile! I'm the booking manager for the cottage, and your contact for any and all questions you might have before, during, and after your stay. The owners are two lovely ladies, Doren and Lisa Slade. They split their time between their home on New York City's upper west side, and their home in Unadilla, NY, located on the same property as the Guest Cottage. Both ladies work as psychoanalysts, and jointly run LD&J Associates, Inc, a psychotherapy office located in NYC. Lisa is originally from Queens, NY, and has a passion for plants and Native American jewelry. Doren hails from the upper west side of Manhattan, NY, has a deep love and knowledge for tribal Mexico, and is fluent in Spanish. Both ladies adore their dog, Xiwe (pronounced "she-way"), which means "fierce" in the Aztec language. They, with their pup in tow, are happiest when at home "in the country" and enjoy sharing the loveliness of that home with others by renting out Westwood Guest Cottage!
