Especen hotel was picked by many guidebooks as Lonely Planet, Petit Futé, Rough guide, Michellin, Footh Print... The Petit Futé guidebook describes our hotel as: A small hotel nestled in the maze of streets that surround the Cathedral. Wake to the sound of bells and a panoramic view of Hanoi rooftops ocher (Petit hôtel niché dans le lacis des ruelles qui enserrent la cathédrale. Réveil au son des cloches et vue panoramique sur les toits ocre de Hanoi).

The perfect place for young backpackers and budget travelers as it is central to the Old Quarter. With that said, if your seeking peace and quiet, this is not the place. The cathedral nearby rings its bells for a long time at 5am, meanwhile there are barking dogs, loud motorbikes, vendors with loudspeakers and construction noise until midnight! The staff at the hotel is extremely accommodating and helpful if you're planning day trips around Hanoi.

Convenient location in the old district. It's a short walk to the lake, night market, bars, museums, etc and there's great street food nearby. Good value for the price, but does not look as nice in person as in the photos.

Friendly staffs and situated near lots of good restaurant such as the handmade rice roll and Roll & Noodles. Very near to Hoan Kiem Lake. Toilet was clean, just that it would be great if we can shower in a separate compartment, like separated by a glass door, as the water would splash to our clothes. We enjoyed our stay there.

Hello ! My name is Tran Hoai Thanh!

I was born in Ha Long city & now I live in Hanoi, Vietnam. I work for Government in day time. Hotel & travel is my home business. Since 1990s, my father open the first mini hotel in Hanoi named Especen hotel in order to have place to relax with his friends in gamble :). My daddy die in 2003 and I continue to run Especen hotel then.

My Especen hotel located in the central of Hanoi old street quarter, It is just a stone’s throw from St. Joseph's Church (Cathedral) on quiet Tho Xuong street. This convenient location allows you to be just a 5 minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, Vietnam Airlines booking office & Quang Trung bus stop (for service to Noi Bai International airport). You can get to all the famous travel points, restaurants (all European, Asia and famous traditional Vietnamese restaurants), craft shops, pubs and art galleries,... as soon as you step on to the main road.

Especen hotel was listed on almost famous travel guide books: Lonely Planet, Petit Futé, Rough guide, Michellin, Insight guide, John Benjamin,... as the best budget hotel in Hanoi for over 20 years.

The Petit Futé guidebook describes my Especen hotel as: "A small hotel nestled in the maze of streets that surround the Cathedral. Wake to the sound of bells and a panoramic view of Hanoi rooftops ocher" (Petit hôtel niché dans le lacis des ruelles qui enserrent la cathédrale. Réveil au son des cloches et vue panoramique sur les toits ocre de Hanoi).

In an adventure book name "The House on Dream Street: Memoir of an American Woman in Vietnam" the writer said that: "... I caught the familiar sounds of "Green Bamboo;" "Especen," and "Darling Café;" Hanoi's most well known hubs for low-budget travelers.

Especen hotel also is a favor hotel of many photographers, Vietnamese singers & artist.

Doing business in hotel & travel is my hobbies, I will make my hotel to be a great hotel as a present to my dad.
