Mountain and valley views

Soak up the views during your stay.
The Old Steading is a beautifully converted barn with exceptional views in an incredible elevated setting.

The space
The Old Steadings is a newly converted farm building, used for the past 100 years to house cattle and store feed. It is now a lovely family house, which can sleep 8 people comfortably. It is set around a central courtyard , with a south-west facing sheltered terrace, surrounded by beautiful countryside with uninterrupted views to the mountains.

On one side of the courtyard is a large modern kitchen/breakfast room leading onto a living room with open fireplace and a sunroom/dining room with wood burning stove. With windows from floor to ceiling, these rooms are light and bright and the views are spectacular. There's a utility room, a cloakroom and a drying area too.

On the other two sides of the courtyard there are four double/twin bedrooms (one with extra sofa bed) with luxurious en-suite bathrooms and there's a hayloft above, converted into a large family playroom. With underfloor ground-sourced heating throughout, the house is constantly warm with plenty of hot water too. The house has its own mineral-rich spring water supply which comes straight off the hill (and is delicious).

Neighbourhood highlights

The Old Steadings is 2.5 miles from the village of Rothiemay which has a shop/post office and a good pub offering good pub grub and a selection of real ales and different whiskies.
The village is situated on the River Deveron, famous for salmon, seatrout and trout fishing. We can offer a beautiful 5-rod double-bank fishing beat with two well-equipped huts and a Ghillie who is an accredited fly fishing instructor.
The town of Huntly is 7 miles away with good shops and supermarkets.

The landscape is predominantly undulating farmland fringed to the south and west by mountains ; to the East by the North Sea and 15 miles to the North is the Moray Firth coast with dramatic cliffs and long sandy beaches and hidden historic fishing villages. The local fishing fleets provide some of the finest seafood in the UK which is exported all over the world and the local fish shops are a must!
Great favourites for all the family are boat trips into the Moray Firth to see the dolphins and the excellent marine aquarium at Macduff ,interesting for all age groups.
Moray is Scotland's. most productive whisky-making area and many of the distilleries are open to the public .... The Glenfiddich, Glen Grant and Strathisla and many more.
If you are interested in the culture and history of the area, there are plenty of castles and museums to visit. Craigievar castle, Fyvie and Findlater, to name but three. Also woollen mills like Johnstons of Elgin and Knockando have different retail opportunities.
Golf is one of the key attractions of this area and is very accessible and affordable. There are 10 courses within a 30 minute drive....links courses, parkland courses and challenging mountainous courses ! The Championship courses of Royal Aberdeen, Cruden Bay, Nairn, and Trump are within an hours drive.
It's also a great area for horse riding. Cycling and wildlife walk maybe, spotting red squirrels and ospreys.
