Marion's place was a tricky experience for me. I rented from her to be closer to a music festival and here is my extremely honest feedback
Location: for those traveling to New York on a budget, I personally think Astoria is a good place to stay but be mindful of the location. For my purpose, to go to Randall's island, it was perfect. But as an FYI- and this is true for all places in Astoria- 15 minutes to Manhattan" really means "20 minutes to the first stop in Manhattan." It's about 30 min to Times Square so plan accordingly. That said, the apartment is located about a 5 min walk to the Ditmars Blvd station which is convenient.
Place: apartment is as advertised. A pretty typical one bedroom for queens. Bathroom, small kitchen, bedroom had a queen sized bed and living room.
Pros: apartment is listed as it is.
Cons: and this is where my review gets "honest." Marion was not a bad host. She was in France when I was staying so it was difficult to communicate, but evident that she tried. My really big issue with this rental, as it was my worst experience with Airbnb, was that she did not mention the lack of an air conditioner. If I were renting at any point other than the middle of a heatwave, this would have not been a problem. But it was absolutely unacceptable for Marion, knowing the temperature outside and the fact that this apartment was on the top floor (making it particularly hot), to not explicitly state the lack of this rather necessary amenity. After finding out, stepping into a 103 degree apartment, I asked her to get a reimbursement so I could stay at a hotel, but was refused. Made the best of it, but this apt was a sauna. Just had one fan that blew hot air into my face. Incredibly uncomfortable and overall really bad experience that I want to put behind me. Although technically Marion did not do anything "wrong," I also feel that she did not do "right" by her guests and so I am giving her two stars.
