About this listing
Lovely room w/ a queen size bed in my three bedroom, 2 bathroom, 1920's home. Located in the Cooper-Young Historic neighborhood (Midtown) and an easy stroll to 19 restaurants & bars, and City Market with organic grocery items. A 10- 12 min drive to Beale St, Stax Museum, Graceland, Civil Rights Museum and the airport. 5 Mins to Overton Square. LGBQT Friendly.
My house is eclectic, relaxing and quiet. Each room has it's own name. i.e.. the Foyer is called the French Quarter; the downstairs bathroom is called the Honolulu Loo with a Mosaic Hula Girl Shower. Upstairs, you'll enjoy the soft light yellow-Island of Kauai room with two windows facing North w/ curtains and a queen size bed. All three bedrooms are upstairs. I have another airbnb room too. The upstairs Purple Rain bathroom has a vintage cast iron clawfoot tub. All bathrooms are shared. Wood floors downstairs and carpet upstairs. The art featured throughout my home are Memphis and New Orleans artists. My front porch has a comfortable swing overlooking the incredible flower garden in the Spring to Fall; many call it Fleur-Topia; I have over 3000 bulbs planted in my front yard - it's epic to watch bloom in the Spring. My house was featured in "$5 Cover" a Craig Brewer film (you should watch it) and numerous magazine ad's. Famous musicians lived at my house and still travel through Memphis and call it "home." One specific musician was featured on the cover of SouthWest Airlines magazine and currently in June '17 Rolling Stone Magazine. I live in the incredible Cooper-Young neighborhood which was rated one of the best neighborhoods in the USA in 2015. LGBT friendly - all are welcome. Walking distance to 19 Locally owned (no chains) restaurants and bars. City Market is on Cooper Street with organic grocery items. Very close to all music in and around the city. I always use 100% cotton sheets/bedding/towels (flannel bedding in winter are cotton too) and wash with Dr. Bronner's Pure-Castile soap due to some allergies with folks; clean with Mr Meyers and Zum cleaning supplies. None of the pillows are feather due to allergies. In the winter, flannel sheets (100% cotton too) will be on the queen size bed (it's cozier) and each bedroom has its own little heater to control your preferred temperature. Central A/C in the Spring and Summer and a ceiling fan in the bedroom. All towels are provided (some have asked).
Guests are welcome to use the kitchen, living room, porch, both bathrooms and laundry. Street parking available. If more more than 2 two guests are arriving, I have a very comfortable thick futon mattress which can be placed on the floor in the Green Room (living room) downstairs and an extremely comfy couch in the same room. There are pocket doors for privacy too.

I am happy to point you in the right direction for food and entertainment! I know the best BBQ joints, fried chicken, & 5-star dining. If I have time and no pending grant deadlines, I'll take you to hear some really great Blues on Beale Street or will point you in the right direction for awesome Memphis music. I love to travel and use airbnb often, and enjoy the opportunity to open my house to travelers to experience all that I love about Memphis. I've been housing traveling musicians and other Blues aficionados during the International Blues Challenge throughout the years; had an award winning IBC band one year.. They call my house.. The Lucky Blues House. Also, I will always have coffee, half & half and organic sugar in the morning for you. Coffee is my lifeline in the morning. ;-) I have a variety of tea too!
Other things to note
Memphis and TN State just started charging taxes 7%. I will increase my price on june 1 - All will be included in your total fee. Also, my backyard is home to two lovely chickens, Priscilla and Jonna, both are very friendly and love snacks or your left-over food. I have two cats, Jermaine (he's in the cover photo), is a husky kitty who acts like a cat-dog and very sweet. The other cat is Coal, he usually sleeps on the couch downstairs or in the window or will visit upstairs and snuggle with you. Both are indoor /outdoor cats and have a cat door. I use a french press for coffee. However, I do not have a coffee grinder. I will always have amazing Memphis coffee at my house at all times. I have a variety of tea too. You can put the coffee grounds down the kitchen sink, there is a garbage disposal. I have another Airbnb room. I will always let you know if someone is here when booking or after you booked. I've had a gazzilion Aussie's come through this year, plus I spent over a month in Australia in 2016, and always in need of vegemite! Please bring if you're on way from Australia or New Zealand! I LOVE IT, and can't find locally. lol (I was told to write this by my Aussie guests) Lastly, If you book for 28 days or more and cancel before the first month, it is not refundable, as required by Airbnb. Like airbnb rules, I require a 30-day notice for long-term cancellation; or if you decide to change your reservation after your long-term stay. ie. If you booked for 3 months but was transferred to another city after a month, you will need to change your reservation from that day to 30 days out.
Please no smoking in my house, but feel free to smoke on the porch or in the backyard. Ashtrays are available in both areas. I have two indoor/outdoor cats and two free range chickens in the backyard, but chickens are locked up at night. It's ok for the cats to go in and out. There is a cat door, but sometimes they prefer a human to open the front door for them. :-) They've trained me well. I allow incense but no candles in the bedrooms.
Cancel up to 7 days before your trip and get a 50% refund plus service fees back.
