Go back in time in this fisherman's Inn, 1950's style! We have four single rooms, and two double - but we can make additional arrangements. Situated in Gryllefjord, at the west coast of wonderful Senja in Troms. Please ask us for other double or single rooms, the whole house, or other arrangements!

The space
We live our daily lives in Oslo (please visit us there – our apartment is on Airbnb!), and both of us work in cultural heritage management and research. The house you are about to visit in Gryllefjord is our hobby, retreat and summer house, bought in 2015 – but we do take our professional mentality with us: The house is a restoration and conservation project. It was built in 1938, and very little has changed, at least since the 1960’s. We want to give our guests the same feeling of entering a “time capsule” as we had when we first saw the house, but of course, you should also feel comfortable staying here! Our strategy is to slowly renovate and restore, but change as little as possible, and if we do change something, we try to bring back the original colors, textures and materials as they used to be. They may not be to everyone’s taste or preference – not even our own! – but they are real! This is how a fisherman’s Inn looked like in Gryllefjord in the 1930’s, and up to the 1980’s, and as most other buildings in Gryllefjord gets modernized and changed forever, we intend to keep this house as it is, as a part of our cultural heritage.

All the bedrooms have their own time stamp, based on what we have found of materials, colors and details. For instance, the room we call “1938” has the original painting from that year, still on the wall, never repainted. To some, it will appear worn out – to others, it is authentic and rare. The challenge we have set for ourselves – sometimes leading to headaches – is that the house should have items and decorative elements reflecting the rural and common people that have lived in Gryllefjord. It would have been easy to just walk into some retro-shop in Oslo, buying high-end, popular design from the right decades. But that just wouldn’t be right!
