La Petite Maison is a beautiful rural two double bedroomed cottage, renovated to a high standard. Situated within a 200 year old farm, (now non working) overlooking the Mayenne valley and located in the region Pays de la Loire. This is an ideal base for those seeking walking or cycling holidays in wonderful countryside or as a base for day tripping to Mont St Michel and Normandy Beaches to the North or to the vineyards of Vouvray and Chateaux's of the Loire in the South.

The space
The house is 2 km’s from the historic town of Lassay-les-Châteaux which boasts one of the finest examples in France of a fortified medieval chateau. The town has many winding streets amongst which can be found examples of medieval living all situated just off the main market square. Alternatively you may just want to sit and relax in the pretty landscaped garden overlooking the pond and valley beyond with a glass of wine and enjoy the break away from hectic day to day life!

The cottage is set on a hill overlooking the beautiful Mayenne Valley. Tennis, horse riding, golf, fishing and kayaking are a few of the sports facilities that are available within a short drive from the cottage. For a slower pace, a stroll by the river with lunch in our village restaurant - €12.50 for 5 courses inc. wine and coffee followed by an afternoon in the peace and quiet of the garden - what more could you want!

Paul and I both had busy careers in London, too much stress and unhealthy lifestyles. We would longingly watch all those TV programs about changing your life, moving to the country, renovating a barn into a designer palace - if only that could be us! In 2007, just as my son left home for University I found myself redundant however always one to look on the bright side that gave us an opportunity to have some 'us' time. That quickly turned into 'seize the day' mentality so Paul quit his job, we put our furniture in storage, packed our car to the roof and set off for France with a map and a gite booked for 7 weeks. Twelve years later we are still here and loving the french life! Now we can speak reasonable french, Paul has been a member of our village council and we have taught English to the children in the local school (although to be honest I think we learnt more French from them than they learnt English from us!) We have a lovely laid back dog called Barnabé and one big barn still to renovate!

As we live in the house at the bottom of the driveway Paul and I are always available to answer any questions that guests may have and although we have put together a comprehensive book of places to visit, restaurants and practical information we are more than happy to give extra advice, book vets/restaurants/taxi's and recommend places to visit that suit your holiday requirements.
