UPDATE: The Blue cabin is available.

Experience the forest of NW Wisconsin at our cozy cabin situated on 40 acres of forest with 2 meadows & a small stream. Hike through gently rolling hills of oak, maple & evergreen stands... or just sit still and let nature rejuvenate you.

The space
Here's what we will be doing to make the Blue cabin safer for everyone.
1. The cabin will be cleaned using an approved sanitizer.
2. When you make a reservation our AIRBNB site will automatically block the day before so no one will be allowed in the cabin 24 hours prior to your stay.
3. We will be offering "Self Check In". We will create a "Welcome to the Cabin" video that will be found in our Guidebook on AIRBNB.
5.This is considered a fluid situation and subject to change. Let's get through this together.

The cabin is perfect for 2-4 people. (Rates are based on double occupancy. An additional fee of $25 per person per night will be automatically added when booking more than 2 people). 1 loft bedroom with one queen bed and additional full size futon bed in the loft sitting area and a queen size sofa bed in the living room. The loft bedroom and loft sitting/sleeping area is an open space divided by a built in closet. Since the cabin has a loft and has a very open floor plan don't expect complete privacy. Of course, on the main level the bathroom & shower are private. Being that it is a open floor plan, in the winter the furnace fan can be heard throughout the cabin. For light sleepers, foam ear plugs work well.
** New.. Nothings better than a good nights sleep, so we just added 3" memory foam toppers to the beds.
We have also added a new Samsung heater/ AC unit. It can be used to condition the indoor space with out having to have the noise of the furnace fan. ** the Samsung unit has outdoor temperature operational limits ( -10 to 95).
**All guests are required to read and abide by "House rules" and all information pertaining to the blue cabin and land listed on this AIRBNB site.
Update 2020: We did complete building the new house. In the summer you can't see the house because of the trees. The cabin windows face the forest. Just know, we are sensitive to our guests experience and respect your privacy.

Guest access
Keys for the cabin will be given to the guest who made the AIRBNB reservation. Please check your AIRBNB profile, the picture should be a fair likeness of you. The key guest may be asked to furnish names of other guests in their group. (just like a hotel does for emergency purposes).
**Check In Time: (3:00- 8:00pm) We try to be flexible an accommodate our guests' travel plans. Evening arrivals -after 8:00pm, just let us know. Please keep us informed of your travel itinerary, texting works great. Be mindful of weather conditions.
You have access to the full 40 acres including forest and trout stream. (note: you must have a Wisconsin fishing license with a trout stamp to fish). We will meet you to give you keys and a short orientation to the house & property. We do have small trail signs up in the woods to help get you back to the cabin. A supply of firewood is provided for the FIRE PIT ONLY. (State law prohibits any transportation of firewood off of our property). Feel free to use the gas grill. There are 2 chairs up in Echo meadow, a great place to read during the day or towards evening watch the birds, monarchs, dragon flies etc. Sometimes the fire flies slowly move up into the meadow, its magical. You may encounter other guests when you are out hiking, please respect our other guests privacy and space, unless your invited.
**The forest is always changing so some trails may be hard to find, overgrown or blocked by downed trees.
STREAM AWARENESS: Depending on the season, the stream can run fast and should be crossed with caution. Use common sense. The stream flows year round and there are a couple of deeper spots (2ft-4ft) but the majority of the stream bed is 4"-8"deep. If snow covered /iced over, proceed with caution. In the Spring, 41 creek is considered a Flash flood stream.
WINTER GUESTS: If you live in the North we assume you understand that snow storms can affect your travel plans. If there is weather coming in, plan accordingly. The driveway is level /gravel/snow in winter. We sand and salt when necessary. Be cautious when exiting the driveway because of limited visibility.
PLOWING: Snow plowing for our driveway (200ft ) is typically done the next day but can take up to 8-10hrs depending on the snowfall amount. Might as well, relax and have a hot chocolate.

Other things to note
Items provided: Electric tea kettle, coffee grinder,French press, toaster. The cabin is completely outfitted with dinnerware, cookware, glasses (all kinds),knives, utensils, corkscrews, bottle openers, paper towels, dish soap etc). No microwave
**The cabin has well water, that has been tested and approved by Sawyer County Health & Human services.
Bathroom- provided Shampoo&conditioner in shower, liquid hand soap at sinks. Quantity of bath towels & wash clothes based on how many guests.
Use common sense around the fire.

There is a black remote hanging next to the front door to control exterior blue lights on cabin.
The indoor fireplace has morphed into a fun "Artsy" version of its former self. (No more parts are made for the LP version). We've used flickering LED lights to mimic the flame. All controlled by a little handheld remote.

WILDLIFE: We're lucky to have an abundance of wildlife living in the forest near the cabin. Here's what you might see: Eagles, Ravens, Palliated Woodpeckers, Grouse, Pheasant, Turkey, Owls ( Great horned, Barred & Great Grey)
Black Bears (spring, summer, late fall), Grey Timberwolves, coyotes (you may hear them at night), Fox, Porcupine, Beaver, Deer & cougar.

Location

Birchwood, Wisconsin, United States

Birchwood is about 6 miles away. Restaurants- see the provided folder.
Hayward is about 15+ miles due north. Its easy to get to and offers some good restaurants, bars and of course the Fishing Hall of Fame is a fun stop. Hayward, Spooner or Stone Lake are nice little towns for a short trip. Hayward is known for hosting the annual "Birkie" Birkebeiner cross country ski race in February. During the "Birkie" Hayward comes alive and is quite festive and fun so make your reservations early.

Your neighbors may be furry and can have sharp teeth. ;-)

We are artists and entrepreneurs and enjoy taking on a challenge, like rescuing this cabin from the encroaching forest. 10 years later the cabin is ready for company. This was our weekend retreat that we would love to share with more people. We wanted a wild place that would bring unexpected experiences. Like seeing owls, porcupine, deer, bear, wolves, grouse, eagles, flowers like trillium, marsh marigolds, assorted fungi, monarchs and fireflies. This is the forest! Its not a park or a KOA. (Bring good boots). We also produce our Sugar Moon Maple Syrup from the sugar maples on the land. We think traveling is important to gain a fresh perspective, and to learn about ourselves and other people. We love Paris, Key West, Denver, San Francisco and Tokyo. On the motorcycle, we like to experience the wide open spaces of South Dakota and Montana, the rugged Tetons and the north shore of Lake Superior. Will travel for food and music. Life motto: Its not a chance , if you don't take it.

****Spring/Summer/Fall is Project time!- There is no shortage of work to do with 40 acres of forest. We are constantly working on maintenance & improvements to the Land/Cabin/New Buildings/Trails etc. You name it, We do it! :))
We try to do most of the work during the week, but sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate with our plan. You might see or hear us… but then again, you might not.

Thank you.
