The space

You will fall in love with the beauty of the Chesapeake in this truly serene setting located less than 2 hours from Washington, DC and Baltimore! It is so quiet at night that you can hear shorebirds and geese out on the water, and the wind blowing through the pines. It is completely private and a great place to get away from it all.

The house has 2br, each with a Queen bed, and one pull out couch with a full sized bed. Bedrooms are large enough to accommodate a child air mattress or crib. Living areas are generous with basic amenities (but who wants to be inside??).

The property has 350 feet of waterfront on Brannock Bay, an offshoot of the Chesapeake Bay. Brannock is shallow and perfect for crabbing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding (SUP) and swimming off the dock. If you have a larger boat, there is a deep water boat launch just down the road.

The property boasts 5 acres of grassy land - the perfect setting for your furry friends or little explorers to run and play! The property borders a 2-lane road that has maybe 5 cars/day on it.

The house was built in the 40's, all with wood from a now-defunct mill about a quarter mile away. We kept all the original wood floors, but the rest of the house underwent a top to bottom renovation to bring it into the modern age. When we bought this property it did not even have running water! It was truly a labor of love!

Guest access

Guests are able to access the whole house and property! A key pad is available for self check-in.

Interaction with guests

We do not live nearby, but are available via email/phone should you experience any issues or have questions. Upon booking, we will email you an e-brochure with all kinds of information and recommendations for your stay.

The neighbourhood

Neighbors are active and enjoy walking, running and cycling on the low-traffic, flat roads that wind along the shoreline. The IRONMAN Maryland occurs every October and the course runs through the neighborhood.

Property is about a 15-20 minute drive from downtown Cambridge, MD which has a plethora of amazing little restaurants and shops, and the renowned Hyatt resort. The city of Cambridge was settled by English colonists in 1684, making it one of the oldest colonial cities in Maryland. To this day it has remained a small, scenic town, rich in history and full of sights straight out of James Michenerʼs novel, "Chesapeake". In 2002, the city's economy was boosted by the opening of the 400-room Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay resort, which draws golfers, spa-goers, and boaters. Cambridge's downtown business district was designated a historical district in 1990, and the city is known for its vibrant arts scene, local shopping, restaurants, and rich history.

Getting around

You will need a car to get to the property, and a car or bicycle (or boat!) to get around once you're there. Our dock is shallow, so large boats will need to launch at the deepwater dock about a mile down the road.

Located less than 2 hours from Washington, DC / Baltimore.

Historic St. Michael's (site of the "Wedding Crashers" movie) is about 40minutes by car or 20 minutes by boat!

Other things to note

Lots of amenities for your convenience, such as:
- e-brochure with recommendations and local attractions
- Adirondack chairs & picnic table
- Fire pit
- BBQ grills
- Cooking supplies for every possible occasion
- Crab trap on the dock!
- Bag toss / corn hole game
- Bicycles, boat and water sports (SUP, kayak, etc) rentals can be arranged
- DirecTV and DVD selection for those rainy days :)
- A/C and heating unit
- Ceiling fans in bedrooms

*Note: there is no internet service at the house. The only way to get internet in our area is via satellite which is really not great, so we decided to forego it and use our trips to the cottage as an opportunity to disconnect. There are plenty of coffee shops in town with reliable internet should you need a connection during your stay!*

Amazing! Looking out of the kitchen window is like looking at a picture. Best sunrises and sunsets you will ever experience. Crabs not out this week but was fun walking out to check pot everyday! My son cried when we had to leave. Had to promise him we would come back.

This house is great - second time staying there! Neighborhood is quiet and beautiful. This is the perfect little house to get away from everything and enjoy the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay. Would defiantly stay again.

Ashley's place is great. It is accurately described - remote, on the water, has its own dock, 15-20 min outside of the town of Cambridge. The house is great and very simple with a super functional kitchen. If you are planning on serious cooking you may want to bring your own pots and pans (Ashley has the basics, all you would need for simple cooking). DirectTV (HD) in the living room.

My daughter and I had a wonderful stay. We were in town to visit black water refuge, which was lovely, but our stay at Ashley's was a more private version of the same beauty and majestic water life surrounding the region. Wonderful getaway, thank you.

Our stay at Ashley's cottage was nothing short of heaven on earth. The pictures she has posted of the property do not accurately express the actual magnificence of the property. You just have to see & experience for yourself. Standing out on the pier and hearing nothing but the beautiful birds and an occasional ripple in the water is perfect medicine for a chaotic world. As she very clearly mentions, there is very little Wi-Fi or cellular connection- but why would you need that if you have such beauty all around you? Ashley was very accommodating in all of our requests, responding quickly and making our stay very comfortable & easy

The description and pictures were accurate. The host communicated very useful information about the house and the area prior to our stay. The property is private and quiet; however, there is an small grass airplane runway across the street so you may see and hear an occasional airplane landing or taking off. Bring bug spray since the mosquitos can be bad due to the marsh and water. Overall, this was a great house and property, especially for dogs. I would recommend staying here.
