This home is so much more than I expected. I didn't realise we'd be living like a Lord and Lady in our very own country manor. As somebody who has always wanted to stay in an historic building this was a dream come true. We even had an upgrade to the vintage room and slept in a four poster bed-luxury! Jose was such a wonderful host from the very first moment he greeted us outside the property to when he, his wife, father and grandfather waved us goodbye (with apples as a parting gift for our journey). We felt very special and fortunate to come across such a family and to have shared their ancestral home. As the last guests of the season we got the space and the host all to ourselves and Jose went above and beyond to make sure we felt treasured. I can't rate him and the experience highly enough. Be sure to check out the forested area slightly north and on the coast (looked good for biking, jogging) and the bakery a short walk up the road (unexpectedly good in such a small village). And if you are lucky enough to stay here please give the dog a great big hug from me.

I picked pontoeste for some sport activity to give time to my body and rest the brain after some intense prolonged stress. And I was not disappointed. The paddle boarding was incredibly calming, once I got my balance sorted, and Jose taught at a good pace so as not to overload. I'd definitely recommend his classes. A couple of things I'd mention about staying in their home. Tell them when you want a shower as they need to get the woodburner going for hot water. Mention if you don't have a car/any vehicle before going so they have a bike fixed up and ready for you. The house is quite remote so you need a bike at the very least for some autonomy. It's a nice house though, cool when hot outside, full of old family furniture typical of Portugal. I'm sure they'd screw their face up at me saying that, but then I took more than my share of british jibes (despite being half portuguese!). They were very giving guys, always offering food and lifts and inviting me to hang out with them and their friends. And their kids are so sweet it will give you toothache. Great stay.

We had a wonderful time at this exceptional guesthouse. The beautifully furnished, family-owned country house itself is already an experience but its the excellent hosts Sara and José with their two lovely kids and the dog that made our stay such an unforgettable one. The guesthouse is located in a green setting with beautiful meadows, swamplands and waters. The interior of the old villa will take you back in time, each guest room has its own style and charm. The house is surrounded by a huge garden. A series of unspoiled beaches are easily reachable within a 15 minutes drive. Some of them provide excellent, uncrowded surfing conditions. José does not only rent out surf and SUP equipment but proved also to be an excellent surfing teacher/companion. Long story short, the stay with Sara and José was one of the highlights of our vacation and we will most definitely come back next time when we are in Portugal. Highly recommended!

For us it was a great gift to stay in this beautiful house, that José and bis wife keep like a treasure. They are wonderful and caring people. Really a place to enjoy and relax. We hope to come back one day and maybe go surfing with José -;) !? He is a great and patient teacher, we could see that! He also definitely knows the best places to go for amazing seafood. For all people, that like to stay away from busy places, we highly recommend Pontoeste!

José's and his family's home is so lovely and the time we spent there was so nice that I actually don't want to write a recommendation because we want pontoeste to be a little secret that not too many people get to know! But I think I have to, so I keep it simple: too good to be true. You are great and everything was wonderful. Juri & Corinna

Relaxed and easy going person. I try to make the best of my time and, these days, that means plenty of surfing and time with my children.
I live in nice sunny place by the ocean and a big lake, I run a small surf school and have been hosting surf guests for a few years. every Summer is a new journey...
