Rainbow Lookout is part of Huelo Pt Lookout ... the place to be 'in nature' surrounded by lush tropical (organic) gardens. All set for romance ... candles ... lie in your Cal King bed and look at the stars thru the six foot overhead skylight!

The space

Situated on Maui's spectacular north shore, this fairy-tale hideaway is the ideal honeymoon retreat ... it feels far away from tourist crowds, yet is only a 15 minute trip to the nearest great restaurant or grocery store. So lovely to come "home" at the end of a day ... and sometimes, you'll probably just to stay "home" right here, and relax! Perhaps you'll "eat in", picking some fresh herbs from our organic garden ... or wander down to the top of our towering 300ft ocean cliffs for sunset ...

Rainbow is a dramatic two story accommodation which has a feeling of privacy and seclusion ... Upstairs, a Cal King bed with six foot skylights overhead for star-gazing - (our stars are very bright here, far away from city lights)... two private balconies, one with gorgeous ocean views and the other over our beautiful pool ... And downstairs, two small sitting rooms (one with a couch/trundle so if you have an extra little one, we can make space for you) ... bathroom, wet bar, dining area leading out on to one of several private lanais with soothing waterfall gardens, barbecue, and your own private hot tub.

From Rainbow Lookout, you can see all the way up the north shore cliffs of Maui to Hana, and then the spectacular views just keep going ... over our orchard greenery and all the way up the slopes of Mt Haleakala, our 10,000 ft dormant volcano.

Our location is ideal for exploring the whole island - but you don't have to stay in a crowded tourist area to do it ... 20 mins to Paia or Makawao, 1 3/4 hours to Hana, 70 mins to Lahaina, 45 mins to Kihei, 1 1/2 hrs up to the top of Haleakala etc. Maui is small enough so that you can stay in one place and have the whole island at your fingertips! BUT PLEASE BE AWARE THAT WE FEEL 'REMOTE'. The last mile of the Hana Highway before you turn off to Door of Faith Road is curvy, and the last third of a mile of our little road can be bumpy/ pot holey (depending on whether we've just had rain). This is a location intended for people who want that 'away from it all' feeling ... so if you're looking for big-time shopping and night life, this is NOT the place for you. Also note: nearest beach is Ho'okipa, about 20 mins away by car.

Please note: WE HAVE NO TV RECEPTION (but we leave a dozen cool DVD's for you and there's a great little video store 15 mins down the road). Our internet service isn't suitable for streaming, but more than adequate for e mails. Cell service can be spotty, but we provide a landline for your exclusive use in your cottage and all on-island phone calls are free.

We don't do daily maid service, though additional services may be arranged at extra cost. You are always welcome to exchange towels at our guest laundry.

We are LEGAL AND FULLY LICENSED! Make sure you reservation is secure - ask your hosts if they are licensed! (And if not, run! fast! Maui County is in the process of enforcing against illegal vacation rentals and we've heard from some guests who have lost their bookings at the last minute). Note that our prices do not include our 13.42% tax - you will be billed separately for that on arrival.

Guest access

Follow our specific directions, park under the little sign that says "Rainbow Parking" (nose into that sign) ... your front door is left unlocked, with a key inside on the guest information book, and a welcome note is on the front door (with all our phone numbers ... so if you don't see us around, just text me). Please tell us if you plan to arrive after dark, so we can leave lights on in the cottage for you.

Rainbow Lookout would NOT be suitable for wheelchair access because of the stepped approach and the spiral staircase.

Interaction with guests

We leave guest to enjoy their privacy, but we're always available for questions etc and all guests have our personal cell #s.

Other things to note

We are a legally permitted establishment, and our prices do NOT include our 13.42% tax, which we'll ask you to pay on arrival. (But we'll make sure you are reminded before you come).

Again, for the techies or media addicted, please note: WE HAVE NO TV RECEPTION (but we leave a dozen cool DVD's for you and there's a great little video store 15 mins down the road). Our internet service isn't suitable for streaming, but more than adequate for e mails. Cell service can be spotty, but we provide a landline for your exclusive use in your cottage and all on-island phone calls are free.

We make the security and privacy of our guests a priority and as such request that only registered guests use our facilities. If you would like non-registered guests to visit you while you are here, please make arrangements in advance of your arrival. Mahalo.

Everything went very smoothly from the moment I touched base with Sharyn to when we left her property. Sharyn is a very kind host, caring but at the same time respectful her guests space. The property is breathtaking and secluded enough to make your stay absolutely unforgettable!

We didn't actually get to meet Sharyn and Jeff but they were both in touch with us as soon as we got there to check we had everything we needed. The property felt wonderfully private and remote and is perfectly positioned for the Road to Hana which we also did and loved. We had everything we needed and would definitely return if we find ourselves on Maui in the future.

Cutting back trees as we speak, Sue! That jungle just keeps growing, unfortunately! :):):)S

If you are looking for peace and quiet in a beautiful place, this is for you. Amenities, location, communication...all were amazing. My girlfriend and I had an amazing time and particularly enjoyed the seclusion of the property. Just an overall perfect experience. Be prepared to drive on a short stretch of road that has quite a few potholes, but it totally added to the experience.

Jeff and Sharyn's Rainbow house is gorgeous, relaxing and peaceful. The thoughtful gifts and personal attention make you feel welcome and at home. The house has a private hot tub, use of a communal pool, and a wonderful hammock to help you relax down to your toes. The stunning landscaping, artistic outdoor shower, lovely decorating, along with tropical birds fluttering around the grounds help create a beautiful and tranquil ambiance. Don't miss the view from the cliffs. We had an amazing time and hope to visit again.

We priced cottages on the beach and those fancy beach resorts but no price beat Rainbow but most importantly no place beat location and environment for the perfect honeymoon privacy and relaxation. When we arrived we were overjoyed to be planted right in the middle of a tropical forest. How could it get any better but to find fresh farm eggs, bread and a complementary bottle of wine awaited us to make for our breakfast in the morning. Sharyn was so nice and Lori was lovely and helpful in all her island advice. We could not have asked for any more and bet we will return. If you are looking for a true Maui Island experience this is the place! Thanks so much Sharyn and Lori. Aloha and Mahalo!

We had a great time in the wonderfull Rainbow House !! The location is very convenient for the road trip to Hana. The house is perfect for a relaxing place to unwind and close enough to "civilization" for all your needs. hot tub at night a plus and loved ending our days with a walk close to the shore/cliff from the house! hope we are lucky enough to return again!

Rainbow is absolutely beautiful, we loved staying here and would definitely come back. The property is at the start of the road to Hana and is located on the top of a bluff that overlooks the ocean which is just a short walk away. It's down a dirt road by car, and in the jungle - rugged and charming yet all the amenities of a fancy hotel, only more private! The private hot tub and outdoor shower were very romantic, the tiles indoor bathroom is gorgeous and the views of the ocean from the apartment really help to let go of any mainland stress. It's lovely to hear the rain falling on the roof or see the stars through the sky light on a clear night. The beach is a 20 minute drive away and Maui really requires a car to get around, but some days we just stayed on property because it's so beautiful there. Paia is the closest town about 20 minutes away. Haiku which is closer is less touristy with a great restaurant called Nuka. Yummy Japanese. Sharyn was there to answer every question we had and was a very gracious host. Fresh eggs from the chickens in our refrigerator when we arrived and even little dinosaur toys by the front door for our 3 year old daughter. I would recommend this place for sure! It's a gem.

So lovely to have you guys stay for an extended period of time . Loved hearing about your Hana adventures in the rain, and your brilliantly improvised tent, Jordan. (Jeff says 'mahalo' for the extra screen!) :)S

My husband Jeff, and I, have lived in Maui since we fell in love with it in 1992. We'd stayed in B&B's all through England and Wales, and thought "Why would anyone want to stay a hotel?" We love the personal touches and we love being able to give people a 'real' experience of M…
