Located on the 1st floor, the apartment is bright and airy with high ceilings and large windows. Enjoy living in a 15th century colombage home with its massive ceiling beams yet enjoy the soft furnishings and modern appliances. Cobblestone lanes lead you to cafes, shops and the river, all in walking distance.

The space
The house was left to ruin when we purchased her. We spent 5 years on an extensive renovation and now she proudly houses 3 one bedroom fully furnished and equipped apartments. Each one has its own unique charm, La Dordogne, La Correze and on the top floor is La Charente.

We have kept as many of the original interior features as possible.
In this apartment the massive cantou fireplace with its stone sides and huge wooden mantle now houses the kitchen units. The original stone sink now features below a new cabinet with original stonework on one side. The high ceilings of the kitchen and living room have the original exposed ceiling beams which are quite large in diameter. The lobby and stairwell back wall is of pointed stones. The colombage facade is original except where the bedroom is as this part of the house had fallen away.
We hope you enjoy the experience of living in a medieval village in a 15th century house with its insides offering you all the modern comforts and conveniences.

Guest access
Entry to the apartments is at the side of the property. Each apartment is fitted with an interphone but you must take your keys with you so you can re-enter if you all go out together. There is a communal stairwell to level one and two.

Other things to note
As this is a medieval property garages are a rarity. That said there is plenty of parking in Beaulieu all of which is free. There is a parking area behind the church which is convenient to the house and off the main road.

In summer there are occasional night markets and a vide grenier/brocante held in the old centre near the house. Also on Monday nights in July and August there is a Marché de Producteurs held by the river near the Chapel. You can purchase food and volunteers will BBQ it for you. Tables and benches provided, a beverage tent and live music.

For a small village there is quite a variety of places to eat and drink. Near to the house is a Breton Creperie. For a brasserie experience there is The Voyageurs and Univers serving a variety of dishes from local specialties to pizza with outdoor seating and in summer tables in the tree shaded square, also at weekends often there is live music. Chez Colette serving local/regional specialties, Cafe Doucer popular meeting place with good food, and every village has its PMU for the horse racing. The Beaulieu Hotel and Les Flots Bleus are at the higher end of the price range both serving excellent meals. Les Flots Bleus is located by the river.
The Dordogne River is only a few minutes walk from the house and can be crossed by a passerelle. On the other side are the public swimming pool, tennis courts, petanque, canoe hire and stand up paddle (SUP) is also now available. Flyfishing is very good along the river also are numerous walking and cycling trails.
This region is famous for its gastronomy so come and enjoy the local cuisine and wines.

We have traveled and worked in many countries and chose to live in France. We bought this 15th century house in a terrible condition and have rebuilt and converted it into 3 separate one bedroom apartments. It has been 5 years in the making and we look forward to sharing this part of France with our guests.
