About this listing
This listing is for two people in our home, see also 'single' listing. Perfect for hill walking in the countryside near the Pennines, it's also ideal for visiting Huddersfield or day trips to the nearby cities of Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield.
Our 1660 cottage is actually two knocked in to one and has recently undergone some major upgrading ! .. new roof complete with solar panels, new bathroom and redecoration.
The double/twin rooms are light and airy with views over the valley whilst the small double is more 'boudoir' and cosy, and has access to the south facing garden and hot tub.
Having no gas (or mains sewerage) our heating is run by the multifuel stove in the kitchen and open fire in the lounge. Addtional electric radiators are provided to ensure guests are warm and comfortable.
The house 'decor' is eclectic and includes many pictures collected over the years, including those by local landscape artist Judith Tucker, who lives nearby.
Delightful at all times of the year, we aim to provide a welcoming and comfortable stay in our home.
Breakfast and dinner can be provided by prior arrangement.
This is our home so the house is NOT for the sole use of guests. AirBNB doesnt allow listing more than one room unless you list as 'entire home'!
Guests have sole use of the upstairs bathroom.
NB We do not host visitors from more than one party at a time.
Breakfast (if ordered) is served in the kitchen.
The hot tub , in the private back garden overlooking Holme Moss, is available for guest use by prior arrangement, subject to terms and conditions (health and safety).
Guests are welcome to use the house lounge.
There is private parking for guests.
Interaction with guests
This is our home and so we are around when guests are staying. We are happy to provide advice and guidance about local events and amenities and look forward to sharing our space with people who come to visit the delights of the Yorkshire Pennines.
Overlooking the Holme valley the cottage is one of just five properties along a quiet lane which is also a public foot path. The area is a walkers' paradise, but also a hive of cultural activity offering cinema from time to time, a vibrant music scene, particularly at the nationally acclaimed Picturdrome. There are brew pubs, wine bars and many excellent restaurants .. and in the summer months there are several festivals.
You need your own transport to visit us as the nearest public transport is a good half mile away in Holmfirth. Cyclists are welcome (we can lock your bikes up for the night). Walkers (serious!) can get here on foot following the steep uphill road to the hamlet.
Cancel up to 24 hours before your trip and get a full refund, including service fees.

I am a recently retired education lecturer who is now enjoying some free time and pursuing some neglected interests ! (Reading, films, music, cooking, exercise! sewing, politics, (URL HIDDEN) there time for anything else?)
I've lived here for twenty years having left Huddersfield for a more rural environment. I spent several years working in London and Leicester before returning to God's Own County .. Yorkshire, where I was born and brought up, and delight in living in the small town/large village of Holmfirth where there is such a vibrant and lively community.
My partner, John (who is an astronomer and speaks Chinese) and I both like visiting new places and meeting new people and prefer staying in small places rather than big hotels so starting to 'host' with Airbnb seems a natural progression.
I look forward to welcoming interesting/interested people from all over the world and from all walks of life into my home.
I hope you will enjoy and respect it as much as I do.
