We are BACK TO HOSTING after a year away and look forward to meeting YOU! Private 2 BR 1 BATH UPSTAIRS SUITE W/MINI-KITCHEN, ALL JUST FOR YOU! Comfort & relaxation awaits. Serene, wooded, retreat like setting on a small lake, busy with wildlife, near the James River, b/tw Smithfield & Newport News. Award winning restaurants nearby. Centrally located. Easy drive to Hampton Coliseum, Christopher Newport U, & Hampton U. Visit Williamsburg one day & VA Beach the next.

The space
NOTE: Stays longer than 7 days are optional once an agreement is made re: special considerations.

Your private sanctuary consists of two bedrooms and one bath, plus a mini-kitchen. No one outside of you (or you and your co-traveler) will be sharing the guest suite. The suite is cleaned according to Airbnb's enhanced standards. We also use UV light for extra sanitizing of door knobs, etc.

For additional privacy, just place the provided screen at the top of the stairs. SEE FLOOR PLAN IN PHOTOS.

BEST FOR: a solitary traveler on business or personal trip, two friends, relatives, or colleagues here for a conference, work, or touring; a couple who prefers to or don't mind sleeping in separate bedrooms (snoring? sleep issues?), etc. Business travelers can sleep in one room and set up an "office" in the other bedroom. Because of the layout of the furniture, we may not be the best fit for a couple desiring a romantic getaway.

Each Bedroom: Comfortable twin bed, with pillow top or mattress topper; essential oil diffuser, sound machine, reading chair with ottoman/footstool,
The TV is located in the larger bedroom (Roku, Hulu, Amazon Video, live TV, other apps).

Closet: 2 floor fans, ironing board, iron, extra pillows, blankets, hangers, clothes bin.

Chesapeake Room: room darkening shades, expandable table/desk/work station with chair, mini-kitchen: mini-fridge with freezer section, microwave, toaster, K-cup coffee maker, dishes, utensils, dish drainer and dish cleaning supplies.

Bathroom: Full bath, chair height toilet, shelf space for your toiletries. Soap, bath gel, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, towels, wash clothes and hand towels are provided. Extra items in closet (in case you forget to bring something).

Thermostat located in upstairs hallway for comfort control.

The downstairs kitchen has filtered water, which is also used in the ice machine. Fill your glass and ice bucket anytime. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, we regret that we are unable to offer the downstairs kitchen for guest food prep. However, you can use the mini-kitchen in the guest suite.

When the weather is comfortable, please enjoy the screened-in back porch and deck for conversation, eating, rocking, reading, relaxing, or taking a nap in the hammock. A ceiling fan helps to keep the breezes going. If you like to eat outside, there is a bistro type table for two. Because we have the property sprayed with a natural substance every three weeks, you will be hard pressed to find a mosquito so you can actually enjoy being outside! You might even see a heron or a crane going fishing or frogging for its meal. Ducks and geese love this end of the lake, and a three member otter family or a beaver or two also swim and fish from time to time. If you take a look at the log in the lake on a warm day, you will know why we have named our home "Turtle Cove"!

We have a 12 pound terrier named "Bizzy" who enjoys being petted once she gets to know you. She is not allowed upstairs in the guest suite, no matter what she tells you!

ACTIVE Military: 10% (5% if combined with another discount)
We love the members of our military and are proud to host them. Your discount will be credited back to your credit card after your stay.

Local taxes are included in the room fee. Airbnb collects state taxes at the time of booking.

Security deposit is requested by Airbnb, BUT is accessed ONLY if you damage the suite or house and property.

Our guest suite is located in our home so we must adapt safety measures to this situation.

For now we request that you also agree to the following:
You will not have traveled by plane, train, or other public transportation for 10 days prior to arrival.

Please the hand sanitizer by the front door when you enter. Wash your hands frequently while you are here. We will do the same.

Practice social distancing guidelines if you come downstairs (to chat with the host, to go to the back porch to relax, etc.).

Guest access
Parking is plentiful, convenient, and free. Check in is at 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and check out is at 11:00 a.m. unless other arrangements are possible to work out.
A key will be provided for you to have access to the home during your stay. Due to previous experiences, a replacement cost of $20 will be charged for any lost keys. This fee is non-negotiable, and will be charged by deducting from the security deposit.

Other things to note
Please tell us something about yourself, the reason for your trip (and if you are not coming alone, who will be with you -- spouse, friend, colleague, etc.) when you make your inquiry. Only the members in your party you let us know about when you inquire or request to book will be able to stay.

For tourists, when you book, if you would like a list of area attractions -- from Williamsburg to Virginia Beach -- including their web sites-- let me know and I'll send it via email. The list starts with Smithfield, just a few minutes away and full of early American history, delightful shops, and great places to eat.

Location

Carrollton, Virginia, United States

Located 10 to 15 minutes from historic Smithfield, and conveniently located to places of interest from Williamsburg to Virginia Beach, our home is tucked away in a wooded area, with water and wildlife right behind the house. The neighborhood is a place in which it is enjoyable to walk, bike, or run. There are water and marsh views to take in as you explore. Two gyms are nearby, including a YMCA. Even though we live in a small community, it offers several places to eat. In addition to fast food places, close by is one of the best Japanese restaurants one of the best barbecue places and one of the best Italian restaurants (the chef is from Naples), in Hampton Roads. A Mexican restaurant, and a seafood restaurant offer good food. Urgent care, a grocery store, drug store, and gas stations are about 5 to 10 minutes away. More shopping and restaurants are located within a 15 minute drive.
Smithfield offers a great hiking trail at Windsor Park, fun shopping in unique stores, and great restaurants in a quaint setting. Huntington Beach is just across the James River. Several tourist attractions, including the oceanfront at Virginia Beach and Colonial Williamsburg, are minutes to just less than an hour away.

I am a retired BSN prepared RN, certified lactation consultant, and childbirth I am a mother to three sons, all professionals, mom in law to two amazing daughters in law, and grandmother to eight wonderful g-kids. I enjoy gardening, artistic painting, playing the piano, and writing music. I also enjoy the beach and exploring cities new to me. I love trying new restaurants, curling up in bed with a good book, friendly dogs, 50's and 60's music, and most of all, my husband. We LOVE meeting new people from all over the world and hosting each one in our home. As a guest, I leave the place where I am staying as neat and clean as possible and do not require being entertained. As a hostess, my goal is to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

During your stay
We will take our cue from you regarding interaction and conversation. If you prefer just to come and go, that is fine. If you enjoy some good conversation, we do, too, as our schedule and your schedule allows. We are a professional couple. We sometimes leave the house very early and sometimes return late. However, we strive to be very quiet, and request that you will also, if you must enter and leave between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
