Escape to Kyle Cottage, a peaceful Highland retreat surrounded by wildlife, rolling hills and open skies. Sleeping four guests with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, this converted steading blends rustic charm with modern comfort.

French doors open onto your private terrace overlooking wildflower meadow and west-facing mountains — perfect for morning coffee or sunset drinks.

The space
Originally built in 1862 as part of a model farm by the Duke of Sutherland, the steading was thoughtfully converted into two independent holiday cottages by the current family.

Kyle Cottage occupies its own self-contained section of the building with private entrance and terrace.

Guest access
The surrounding six acres of fenced grounds, include a small walled garden, tumbling burns, and woodland walks with free range bantams. These are shared with the main house and neighbouring cottage, and are for you to enjoy throughout your stay.

Kyle Cottage sits within a classic unspoilt highland strath and enjoys far reaching views out over the Kyle of Sutherland.

The cottage

Kyle Cottage is a historic family-owned Highland cottage, not a modern holiday development. It is well-maintained, regularly updated and comfortably equipped, while retaining the character and quirks of an older building. The interiors feature family furniture, books and artwork that reflect the area and create the warm atmosphere our guests love.

Walks from your door

There are excellent maintained walking paths directly from the cottage leading up the hill behind, making it easy to explore the landscape straight from your door.

Supplies

While wonderfully rural and tranquil, everyday shopping is available in nearby Lairg and Bonar Bridge, with larger stores in Tain and Dornoch.

Dining options include excellent meals at Falls of Shin (about 4 miles away or an hour’s scenic walk over the hill) and at the Pier in Lairg. Further afield, popular food destinations include Ullapool, Kylesku, Tongue and Dornoch.

Dark skies

With minimal light pollution, the night skies here can be spectacular on clear evenings.
