The gypsy wagon is a truly romantic experience, candle lit, authentic, & with the comfort of being insulated & situated in a beautiful garden, even with the rain pattering on the sides of the wagon you will feel cosy and comforted. WC/shower are in the restaurant. We also have other accommodation available in the house.
our restaurant provides vegetarian breakfasts which are optional.

The space

The historical wagons are small and cosy and without electricity, they are suitable in late spring summer and early autumn. they sleep two plus there is a side bed for a child. They are authentic and although we have renovated them with an insulated roof the front and back are original. The wagons were made from the Ford boxes which brought the Ford car parts over to the Cork plant. They were used as holiday wagons from the 60's up until the early nineties. As traffic became faster the horse drawn wagons became increasingly dangerous on the narrow Kerry roads. We have kept the traditional colours and made them more spacious inside by removing the bunk beds. They were originally advertised to sleep a family of five. Originally the wagons would have slept many more as children would have nestled underneath with an awning around the chassis. The wagons have the original hay boxes and front seats for the driver.
It was tradition to travel in the wagons from farm to homestead and to sharpen tools and especially make buckets and coal scuttles from tin. Hense the name Tinkers, which was/is an honourable profession and craft.
We provide bed linen and towels and you toilets and showers are in the house. There is a toilet for the night at the back of the house which is fully lit all night. The restaurant can be availed of for drinks and food. We have wifi which can be a bit spotty.

Guest access

feel free in our garden and cafe seating area outside and in, ask us if you need washing doing or want to watch a special match on tv or need special diet or an early morning pre breakfast tea...we are here to help you out and make your holiday special

Interaction with guests

We have a handy little guide book with lots of maps and helpful info, plus we know what to avoid or see. Distances are deceptive here...things look straightforward on a map, but they rarely show the narrowness of the roads and the bends, if you are used to wide roads and right hand driving add a tad MORE time to every trip you plan

Other things to note

We are on a small but can be busy by road on the Wild Atlantic Way. It can be wet and windy..raincoats and a wooly or so sunny you would need a strong sun cream...all in one day. We do have a dark sky reserve just across the harbour, so we also see stars as if they are 3D on a clear night.

This place is one we will always remember. A very special space. I wish we could have stayed longer. Very warm and welcoming. Lorna has a contagious spirit. She and her husband run the cafe next to the room. We purchased her cookbook as a souvenir to always remember this experience!

Staying in the Gypsy caravan was such a wonderful experience! It's small and relaxed, lovely gardens, and there's divine food in the restaurant. Perfect for a break away from it all. Lorna was so lovely, and made us feel so welcome, as did the other staff. The location is perfect base for sightseeing along the Dingle Peninisula (which is a truly amazing part of the world) if the hustle & bustle of Dingle town isn't your thing.

The gypsy wagon was very delightful. There is no power but Lorna gives you candles in decorative lamps which give off plenty of light. The breakfast of coconut porridge and fresh strawberries at the Phoenix Cafe was delicious and filling for our long day ahead of driving around the coast. Lorna was very pleasant and greeted us at her cafe. The gypsy wagon is in the garden right besides the cafe.
