Hi There
We are blessed to live in Lochmara Bay, which is about 10 min by boat from Picton and love to share our place and meet new people. Whether its peace and seclusion , water activities, tramping etc we would love to host you.
Kind Regards, Sheryll and Gary

The space

The main Bedroom has a lovely queen sized bed, ensuite, wardrobe and is accessed off the main deck. The open plan kitchen and living room has a cosy lodge feel. With a fireplace it's toasty and warm in the Winter, and in Summer opens out onto the large main deck where you can enjoy the wonderful view, relax, and watch the various boats coming and going. If you need additional rooms, we have two other bedrooms that share the main bathroom and toilet.

Guest access

You'll be welcome to use most areas apart from our private quarters.

Interaction with guests

We enjoy meeting new people and showing our guests some great Kiwi hospitality. There's lots of activities to do from kayaking and fishing gear available which were happy to help get you started. Most days Sheryll walks up to the track to the Queen Charlotte Track. It's steep but the views are just amazing, and your most welcome to join us. During the day we will generally be around the house or garden.

Other things to note

If you like a light breakfast and make your own we have various cereals and bread/toaster on hand, or if your prefer we're more than happy to provide a cooked breakfast, usually bacon and eggs, from our free range hens (this is included in the daily rate).

Your welcome to bring your own food and cook your own lunch and dinner using the full kitchen or the BBQ on the deck - cooking basics are readily at hand.
If you prefer, we're more than happy can make lunch and dinner for by arrangement, so you can just sit back enjoy your stay. We ask for $45/person/day to cover the costs of providing lunch and dinner. Generally we have dinner at around 6pm.

We have all of the basics available and your welcome to make your self at home.

Please bring any wine or beer that you would like to drink with you.

Lochmara Lodge is just 2-3 minutes across the bay. They are open during the summer months and operate a lovely restaurant and cafe. It's often very busy so booking in advance is a good idea. They are generally happy to come and collect you, or you can take a dinghy across.

We do not smoke inside the house and ask our guests not to either. There are lots of areas outside where you can smoke.

Our small Jack Russell "Jilly" is responsible for possum control duties.

Sheryll and Gary were the most fantastic hosts and went out of their way to make our weekend one to remember! Such a lovely couple. We especially enjoyed kayaking around the bays (even fun in the rain!). Dinner and breakfast were delicious. Highly recommend!

This was our best AirBnb experience so far by a long way. The location was incredible, just a short water taxi ride from Picton, the views were absolutely out of this world. Sheryll and Gary were very welcoming and had so many great stories to tell. Breakfast was delicious and we were very sad to have to leave. The use of the kayaks and the paddle board was an added bonus. Very highly recommended and we hope to be back soon.

Stunning location. Best air b&b experience ever! Sheryll and Gary are fantastic hosts, they made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. We really enjoyed spending time with them. They are remarkable people. There are plenty of activities to do to keep you occupied. They very kindly let us borrow their Kayak to explore the bay and there is a lovely hike on their doorstep. They are fantastic cooks and Sheryll's 'cloudy eggs' were tip-top! We were sad to have to leave but will definitely be back!

Sherryl and Gary are lovely hosts! Such warm, friendly and easy going people - we felt very comfortable and welcome in their beautiful home. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable with a great en suite and amazing views of the bay. Sherryl's breakfast is amazing and with kayaking and hiking on the doorstep it set us up for the day! Highly recommended- I hope to be back!

Our stay here was the highlight of our trip to New Zealand. The place is fantastic with a gorgeous view of the bay. Sheryll and Gary set us up for hiking and kayaking, too, so we made the most of it. However, Sheryll and Gary are the main reason to stay here! They are absolutely charming, took care of us as if we were family, and are just adorable. We can't wait to see them again.

We took a water taxi from Picton main dock and arrived within 15 minutes. Sheryll, Gary and Jill (Jack Russel dog) greeted us and were super friendly and welcoming. There are lots to do whether it's raining or sunny. I spent a lot of time exploring on the paddle board :-) Next time I would stay for at least 2 or 3 days. Highly recommend to all.

We're Gary and Sheryll and its great to meet you. Gary has recently retired after 50+ years serving in the New Zealand Fire Service and Sheryll has owned several business.
Over the years we have enjoyed many holidays in the Queen Charlotte Sound and think its just the most beautiful place and that's why we have chosen to retire here.
