Description

The space

This listing is for a single bedroom. it is in the same house as:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/5160632
So here's the deal: No phone, no lights, no motor cars, Not a single luxury, Like Robinson Crusoe, As primative as can be.

Ok, not quite, It has lights, Air conditioning, a walk in closet, a small TV (with Amazon fire-stick) and access to the rest of the house, which does have a luxury or two, but it's all about expectation management.

Have you heard the expression, building an airplane while in flight? Well, that suits Casa Roja just fine. This is a Ginormous (4700 sqrft) house in a phenomenal location. Best location in El Paso, if I do say so myself. (and I do). Here’s why:

I am a mere hop, skip, a half mile to the best restaurants, bars, and nightlife that El Paso has to offer. I’m Uno mile from the Sun Bowl and 2.5 miles to Chihuahua stadium/Convention Center/Plaza.

There are a dozen hospitals around here for all you traveling nurses and hypochondriacs.
I’m 13 min to the Zoo (and El Paso Hockey…that’s right. Go Rhinos!)
I’m 15min to Ft. Bliss.

Ok, back to the Airplane.

The house was a foreclosure and therefore treated a bit neglected. I’ve done a lot on the ol girl, but there’s still a lot to do.

And now what you’ve all been waiting for: The area for rent. Its a simple one bedroom next to mine. that's it. Now for the rest of the house:

I have two living rooms, two dining rooms, and a poker room. Only one of the dining rooms has a table, but both of the living rooms are good to go. (LR1 has a pull out couch which you can negotiate from me in a pinch). One living room has a TV, the other has a fire place, which I’ve never used. I hope to have a nice TV in there eventually, with a video of a fire.
Ok, time for some reality. AirBnB or (website hidden), whichever site is not blocked out tells me to be upfront and honest. They also tell me to be brief and we see how that went. Anyway, here are some of the things that may detract from your lodging experience:

The house used to have two stoves, now it has one, therefore, there is a spot in the kitchen where a stove used to be. Does it affect how the other stove works? Nope. Is it ugly? Yep. One day I will replace the entire kitchen and it its place will be a wine fridge, but not right now.

Besides the house being generally old, I have no cable. I do have wireless interwebs and can offer Amazon TV witch includes: Netflix, HULU+, (website hidden), (website hidden), and Amazon prime while you are here.

And the bathroom is tiny. Its only 4 feet from the room, but the shower, sink, and toilet are all crammed in there. You can see more in the pics.

Last, but not least, the back yard is a work in progress and a never ending fight between me and the weeds and just so you know; the weeds are winning. I've even tried a scorched policy. We're talking Sherman's march to the sea. And I'm still losing. (Almost sorry for offending those Southerners for whom it is still too soon)

Ok. That's bout it for now. If I've missed something, please let me know.

Guest access

kitchen, washer, dryer, living room, poker table, dining room, back yard, living room (I have two), coffee maker, fridge, my just kidding. I wouldn't do that to you, well, maybe.

Interaction with guests

As much as or as little as they want.

The neighbourhood

What the house lacks in anything is make up by location. This is the best location in El Paso. Proximity to the best bars and restaurants el paso has to offer. Large park outside the back gate. Close to Sun Bowl, UTEP, multiple hospitals, downtown, and Chihuahua Basball Stadium. 10-20min to Ft. Bliss. less than 30 minutes to either side of El Paso. The house is smack dab in the middle.

Getting around

Bus stop around is about 50 feet away or I can provide a ride depending on where/when.

Also, Uber has come to town.

I have a bike you can borrow.

And many many places are within walking distance.

Other things to note

I also rent out a 2BR suite in this house. Take a look and see if this is more your style:

https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/5160632

I have a rec room with a poker table available for use.

There is an outdoor firepit available as well.

Additional price for more than three gusts does not apply to children under 14. Not sure how to do that on airbnb, so dont put them on the count and just email me about them.

House Rules
Check in is anytime after 4PM

This is my second time staying with JP in this house (in a different room) and it was a great experience. I've stayed in a few places in El Paso, and this is the best I've seen. Strongly recommend!

Staying here was great! JP is a friendly dude. He is very low key, and will never get in your way if you don't want him to. If he's home he'll probably be in the living room and great you and if you ask him, he's happy to give all kinds of recommendations in the area. I give him a sold A as a host. He lives with a couple who live in back, but I honestly only saw either of the two of them about 3 or 4 times in my 6 week stay. The place is certainly huge as advertised, and the room is also gigantic! It also had an attached bathroom with a standup shower. It was all clean and all in perfect working order. The kitchen is pretty bare bones, but as JP says in the ad, it's a work in progress. I had no issues cooking myself dinner most nights, aside from a low assortment of cooking tools, but unless you're making something oddly elaborate, the kitchen will do. The location is also excellent! Right in the heart of the Mesa-street area and convenient to downtown and the highway. Perfect location!

JP was a very nice host, he even went out and got some cough drops for my boyfriend whom was sick. He even offered to move a TV into our room for us.

This is our second time staying at this casual and comfortable place. He also gave us a ride to Amtrak station. We would stay here again.

Hello all. I'm a single Army officer stationed here in the West Texas town of El Paso. I'm an extrovert and prefer grabbing a beer downtown as opposed to the house. Originally from NYC, I'm an Army brat and was given the opportunity to grow up overseas. Heidelberg Germany, to be specific. Since then traveling has become my way of life. I just hit my 40th country with lots more to go. My international travel took a hit when after 17 years of living abroad, I moved back the states and discovered there's a whole lot of exploring to do in this country. During the winter, you'll find me making regular trips to my adopted home of Denver Colorado. I maintain my season pass to the Vail resorts and used to be a ski instructor at Keystone. I'm just getting into the hosting thing as we'll see how that goes. Like many things, I wonder why I didn't start this years ago. I hope to hear from you.
