A fantastic farm stay with Karen allowing us to feed all the animals and showing us around. We were welcomed with a warm fire and fresh eggs when we arrived on a very cold rainy afternoon and were made to feel very welcome. It is a little secluded but if you are looking to get away i can't speak highly enough of this farmstay, particularly if you have children. Thanks Karen

We had such a lovely time at Kateru Downs. Karen and Bruce could not be more welcoming. They were so super with our 3 kids and us, showing us all over the farm, letting the kids play with the animals, giving us eggs and awesome garden gifts. It was a real highlight of our New Zealand month. The house is so spacious and comfortable and lovely. We highly recommend this. It's much much more than a typical airbnb. It's an incredibly delightful farm stay. Honestly if we had known about this place we would have skipped Christchurch and based here our first few days. It's only an hour away.

It was a very pleasant stay. The house was comfortable and well stocked with amenities. We loved the BBQ. The owners are very friendly and the kids enjoyed the opportunity to get close to the animals. I highly recommend this place. It was certainly one of the highlights of our trip.

Karen and Bruce's place was absolutely fantastic....quiet, secluded, fun with the animals, and great for an authentic New Zealand farm stay. We had a great Christmas at the cottage, which was clean, spacious and very homey. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for getting off the grid for a true vacation. Thank you Karen and Bruce!!

It is a great getaway from the city! Well prepare yourself with food and stuff if you are staying more than a night, or getting out to the town or city may not be so convenient.

A great place for family with children! Not only the cottage is cosy & nostalgic, the farm of donkey, sheeps, pigs, rabbit, kune kune, dogs are fun to spend time with especially for the children. We were fortunate to witness process of weaning for the lambs & even had chance to experience shearing of lambs. So fun & entertaining for our family, thanks to Karen & Bruce for being great hosts!

Hi I'm Karen. My husband Bruce and I run a hill country property in the Waipara Gorge just inland from the township of Amberley. I am a registered nurse who loves the country side, farm animals and everything to do with family. We have 3 children who are now all in their 20s. We are relatively new to airbnb. We love meeting new guests and particularily enjoy sharing our little peice of NZ paradise. We invite you to come and meet our farm animals Barney the donkey, Wilby and Ginger pig, Maddy the boxer dog, collect the eggs from the chickens and feed the pet sheep. Did I mention mention the other 5000 sheep and 100 cows? Explore our beautiful hill country property we would love to show you around.
