Historic hemp plantation home with Abraham Lincoln connection surrounded by a working farm alongside a creek in Northern Fayette County. Easy access to I-75/I-64, just 10 minutes from the Kentucky Horse Park, 20 minutes from Keeneland and airport.

The space

Private secured suite with queen-size bed, satellite TV, stereo FM/AM/CD, closet, sitting area, in-room ice maker and complimentary hot beverage service, mini-refrigerator, full bath with laundry facilities. Shared family room and kitchen. Amenities include bath products, hair dryer, complimentary snack basket, and historic house and farm tour.

The house is registered with the Blue Grass Trust for Historic Preservation. Notable is its connection to Abraham Lincoln. Denton Offutt, employer of Lincoln at the general store in New Salem, Illinois, lived in the house for about 10 years, where he bred and trained Standardbred horses.

The farm is all things Kentucky: horses, tobacco, cattle, corn, soy beans, alfalfa, and grass hay.

A farm and house tour are complimentary.

We are experienced certified tour guides for Fayette County and Central Kentucky. Half-day and full-day guided tours are available. Ask for seasonal rates. (Tours are self-drive in your vehicle.)

Guest access

Access to entire first floor, including immaculately restored dining room, main hall, and parlor of 1830 Kentucky hemp plantation home with authentic 19th century antique furniture.

Interaction with guests

We will be available as desired. Spend your private time in your own room, or sit with us for the evening.

Other things to note

The house is located on a working farm, with all things representing Kentucky agriculture: horses (Lexington is the "Horse Capital of the World" and the largest cattle market east of the Mississippi), corn (look for ours in Buffalo Trace Kentucky Bourbon in 2025), tobacco, and hay (we sell ours into Georgia). The entrance is a farm lane, with gravel paving. It is extremely dusty! Drive slow to avoid several pot holes.

If you're looking for a comfortable & relaxing atmosphere far from noise and traffic but still reasonably near to attractions, we highly recommend Waterwild. Our accommodation was basic but very comfortable - a good sized room with queen bed with a great mattress and cozy comforters, pillows, etc. TV, air conditioning, ceiling fan, sitting area as well as separate (and large) bathroom with mini fridge, ice maker and great shower. (and excellent WiFi) Our hosts Jamie & Madelyn were sociable, gracious and very helpful in making some recommendations for places we hadn't been to before (big shout out to Blue Door Smokehouse for fantastic BBQ) We've been to the Lexington area many times and haven't been i(URL HIDDEN)for many years. We thoroughly enjoyed being close to nature and just breathing in fresh country air. If you want to get away from the frantic city pace and wish to have a base for touring the area (horse farms, bourbon trail, events, etc) please consider Waterwild.

Madelyn and I were married in 1983 and honeymooned in Colonial Williamsburg -- in January, so no one would be in our way! We share a passion for history and archaeology. For 10 years, we hosted an archaeological dig on our historic farm for fourth graders under professional supervision. We also enjoy traveling and exploring unknown places on our own. Trips have included France, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Honduras, Belize, The Bahamas, Saint Thomas, Saint Kitts, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and Canada cross-country by train (we've also traveled extensively in the USA on Amtrak and the American-European Express). Our favorite vacation spot is Key West in the same house on Olivia St., one block off Duval, for 10 years.
