A rare charming 300sqft airy light-filled room with a garden view a high-ceiling of 3m. The house was featured in Monocle magazine.

The space

A secluded hideaway feel while being in the city and at heart of a heritage culture district. The space is located in Little India and Jalan Besar which are the emerging trendy districts to explore in Singapore. Get to experience a unique side of Singapore, away from cramped high-rise apartments. Here, you'll find an authentic side of Singapore where old world charm of various cultures meets modern coffee joints, trendy cafes and restaurants.

This room features a high-ceiling with large windows overlooking the 700 sqft open-air garden/patio. The room is generously furnished with Muji (classic Japanese 'design' brand) beddings, lighting and other decorative items. Other creature comforts includes top-quality amenities such as air-conditioner, ceiling fan, iron, hair dryer, designer roller blinds, side table lamp, and tall wardrobe.

Other areas in house which you're welcome to chill and make yourself at home are the living room which comes with a movie projector, garden-facing desktop work space, open-air kitchen with designer lamps where you've access to a stove, kettle, oven, rice cooker/steamer, Fischer & paykel fridge/washing machine/dryer. There are two clean bathroom, one comes with a strong shower of ample hot and cold water.

One of the most pleasant experience of staying in here is the access to the open-air courtyard garden which is almost half the size of the house. It is where you can sit under stars/moon at night or have your meals outdoors in a green oasis. Garden is maintained by owner whose work revolve around nature and botanical.

Interaction with guests

The space is my art studio and residence. I write and paint at my desk next to the window facing the courtyard. I sometimes teach private art (small-scaled painting) classes here at the living room to 3-6 ladies for 2 hrs on weekend morning. If we do meet, I would definitely be happy to share where are the best spots to visit in Singapore. As a Singaporean who is an artist, writer and lecturer in the areas of arts/design/travel/nature, I hope to able to share some of famous best-kept secret spots in Singapore.

Other things to note

Lucinda is a very welcoming and nice host. She is very professional and keeps her art deco studio in good care. Whenever you need anything she is willing to help and make you feel at home. The garden is very beautiful and the apartment has all amenities. The room is large and is well equipped with a large bed, closet and desk. The house is in the middle of little India and good connected with MRT, bus and close to shopping malls such as Mustafa Center and City Square Mall. The cleaning of the room/apartment could be improved although all was clean at arrival but no extensive cleaning during my long stay. Overall great experience and a good place to arrive mentally in Singapore. Thanks Lucinda!

Lucinda was very friendly and welcoming. She shared some helpful local knowledge with us and went above and beyond by messaging us with tips for our next adventures in Lombok and Gili Air. The room is spacious, clean and minimalist - and although we didn't spend much time in the house the courtyard area, surrounded with hanging botany, was a pleasure when we sat out there to eat our breakfast each morning. I love the holistic and spiritual feel of the whole house - it's given me plenty of inspiration for my next flat in London!

Staying in hotels in Singapore while doing your visa run is not a fantastic experience. However this time I came upon Lucinda's "Cosy Garden Room" situated in the heart of Little India and what a change this made staying at her home. Lucinda welcomes you into her much loved and clean home like a friend. She is an Artist and appreciates beauty with appreciation and displays kindness with concern to make your stay homely. She has a beautiful courtyard with many much loved plants. Her rooms are spacious, cool, clean and have lots of cupboard space. The location is in a very handy spot for shopping with all services close by. Add a flavor of Indian culture, smells of Indian food cooking and Indian people going about their daily lives allowing your imagination to drift off like you are actually in India and not another city.

Lucinda was very welcoming when I came to Singapore. I had a lot of personal business to settle while I was in SG, and Lucinda's Top Notch Hosting skills and advice and facilities really made it easier for me to get myself organised. You will get your own room, big bed, big wardrobe, multiple powerpoints, window, aircon and fan as a bonus (sometimes not appropriate to use aircon). Shower and toilets were great too and clean.

Response from Lucinda:
Thank you Francis for the lovely thoughts and we're happy to have hosted you. To be clear, the aircon can be used at all times. Thanks for pointing out that the toilet has a way to work the flush and I'll make a note for future guests on how to use the flush.

I had a great experience with my two week stay at Lucinda's place. The location of the house is very well connected and vibrant with all sorts of amenities in walking distance. The house is large and airy and has a little patio which makes the stay even nicer. Lucinda is very easy going, and the aesthetic taste and vibe at home was quite pleasing to me. I highly recommend to book her place!
