Madampe house is situated just outside Ambalangoda with a frontage onto Madampe lake. Ambalangoda is renowned for the intricaltely carved masks and is also the best place in Sri Lanka for antiques. We are midway between Bentota and Galle - about 30 minutes from both by car or slightly less by rail. The vibrant resort of hikkaduwa is about 10 minutes away by tuk tuk.

This area is perfect for nature lovers - an amazing variety of bird life and a vast array of fish and shellfish are on sale by fishermen at roadside stalls . One a week there is a large market at nearby parrot junction with an array of top quality fruit and veg. that defies description.

We had a great time at Madampe house. Jayantha and his team did a very good job in every respect. He organised the trips we made, so that all went by smoothly, he even made contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo on behalf of my son-in-law. The house and the garden are places where you must feel at home - very proper and in really good shape. Jayantha (with Janusha and Madu) cooked excellent meals - my daughter and my son-in-law, who had been living in Sri Lanka for two months, would not recommend any restaurant to us - because they did not know a restaurant where the food is as good as in Madampe house. The service offered by Jayantha and his team was excellent in every way. If we wanted to see a market or make a trip to Uda Walawe National Park, if we wanted to learn some details about the cuisine of Sri Lanka - Jayantha made all of this possible in a seemingly effortless way. He showed us the way to the temples we were interested in and suggested to us a manifold of places of which we were glad not to have missed them. All in all we felt very much at home and at the end we really were sorry that we had to leave.
