Nestling down a quite ally in the ancient town of Argiroupoli Yonnie’s house is an ideal location for those wishing to be away from the hustle and bustle of the usual tourist spots.

The space

Argiroupoli is a small, very local town which is situated half way up the mountains between Rethmyno and Chania and not far from the lovely and expansive Episkopi beach which includes a number of tavernas. It’s about a 20 minute drive to Rethmyno and an hour to either Heraklio and Chania. The fishing port and town of Georgioupoli with many bars and restaurants is also about 20 minutes drive away en route to Chania.

This fully renovated traditional Cretan stone cottage on two levels which will accommodate 4 comfortably whilst an additional 2 – 4 people could be accommodated on blow-up mattresses.

Just a 2 minute walk from the town square you enter a courtyard from the ally through a door leading to the downstairs area, a small courtyard, a bathroom (bath, washbasin and toilet) and staircase leading upstairs.

On the upper level there is a patio looking down the valley to the sea in the distance, with an outside table and chairs as well as a built in stone BBQ. Enter the upstairs areas through two doors into an open plan space with a living area, dining area and double bed with wood burning fire.

Downstairs is a small kitchen, another dining area with a small table, a stone fire place, a second bathroom (shower, washbasin and toilet) and another built in double bed in an open plan area.

Two additional beds (blow-up mattresses ideal for younger guests) can be added, if required, either downstairs or upstairs.

Look no further for an excellent place to call your home-away-from-home while in Crete. The location is perfect for all the best beaches on the island. We would highly recommend a stay at Dimitris' place in little Argyroupoli.

Beautiful farmhouse in semi rural location. Great local shop/supermarket well stocked with essentials, plenty of fresh fruit, veg, cheese counter etc. Three tavernas within a short walk serving local food and wine at a good price. A lovely little coffee shop - Greek yogurt with honey and nuts is a must!!! The house has everything you need. The ground floor is a bit of a cave (dark) - you have the kitchen (with everything you need to cook) and bathroom there. You then have outside stairs that lead to a lovely balcony (with washing line if you need it!). We had breakfast there every morning. There is then an open plan bedroom/living area which is very bright and spacious (photos don't do it justice). There are two large doors and a window onto the balcony. We kept them open 24/7 and they provided a lovely breeze. We stayed for a week and only on the last night did we have issues with mosquitoes. It's worth taking some repellent with you in summer months. If you're a light sleeper beware that you will hear mountain goats and the odd farm dog in the distance sometimes. Although this is a small village there are still lots of tourists passing through and places of interest to visit so don't forget to spend an afternoon strolling and soaking in the culture. A car I would say is a must and the location is perfect for exploring Rethymno and Hania. Don't forget to plan an afternoon at lake kournas and definitely also worth a visit moni arkadiou (monastery). We only had wifi at the house for 2 days of the 7 it wasn't too much of a problem because many taverns have wifi available. Great friendly host who couldn't have been more helpful. Had a great time and would recommend.

What a village! Beautiful place (we were in the loft apartment and not yonnies house). We ate and drank at the local tavernas and didn't go down the hill to the springs. Food and hospitality was as good as it gets, beautiful people always wanting to please you. Great location to explore the principality. I do like to go to different places, but if I ever return to this part of the world I would stay here again with these people.

This traditional stone house is just perfect. It is fully equipped, nicely decorated and everything is functioning. We (family of 3) really enjoyed our stay. The village is superb, too. We would recommend following activity: drive from Lappalie via Asi Gonia and Kallikratis to Imbros. It is a spectacular mountain view! Park there, hike down the Imbros Gorge and take a taxi back to Imbros. Excellent trip! Thanks again Dimitris for the great house. Andrea & family

Dimitris is a fantastic host. 1) He kindly offered to have Stavroula, his girlfriend, pick me up from the airport for much less than a taxi fare. 2) In getting there, I realised I was without a proper Greek electricity adaptor! Dimitris went out of his way to help get me one and continue using devices. He's a terrific host and it's a lovely place in a lovely village.
