Holiday accommodation in the heart of Mapua Village & the Great Taste Cycle Trail. Stylish and modern units perfect for family holidays, romantic retreats or weekend escapes. Under-floor heating for winter warmth. Only 2-5 min walk to shops/cafes. Close to Nelson, Ruby Bay, Golden Bay and the Abel Tasman National Park.

The space

Our two new architecturally designed units offer stylish and modern, boutique accommodation with indoor-outdoor flow onto expansive decking. Both the Orange Apartment, a one bedroom, self-contained apartment and the Blue Studio, a fully equipped studio unit, offer a warm and comfortable base for your next family holiday, romantic retreat, or a weekend escape.

Attached by a breezeway, the combined indoor space of 112sqm and extensive decking offer a variety of private spaces. The combined house offers proximity for those ‘together’ times with extended family or friends, as well as individual privacy for ‘time-out’.

Ideally both units are suited to couples but individually the Orange Apartment can accommodate 4 people and the Blue Studio can accommodate 3 people. However, we limit the total number of guests in the full house to a maximum of 6 people so that everyone has enough space and privacy.

The two units can be booked together on this listing. Refer to our separate listings if you wish to book the units individually. They are called:

My family and I had a wonderful stay in Mapua at John's cottages! They were warm and friendly and great hosts. The cottages were modern, clean and had all the facilities you could need. Thank you for an excellent stay, we would recommend this air BnB to anyone!

We absolutely loved the accommodation. It was so modern, clean, well-equipped, comfortable. It's pretty much everything you would expect from a 5 star accommodation. John's attention to the little details to create the extra ambiance was just a huge bonus. Lights on the ladder, candle lights, etc. It's just too beautiful of a place. John himself was a fantastic host, welcoming us upon our check-in and gave us fantastic recommendations on dinners and places to grab a beer / quick bite. John's accommodation is only 4 minutes walk to a BEAUTIFUL wharf where you'll find plenty of restaurant and even a local brewery! Make sure to take a walk down the wharf at night to enjoy a beautiful scenic night scene where you'll be able to see plenty of stars! I wish we had stayed an additional day. Thank you for the pleasant stay!

Our family of 5 stayed at Mapua41South for 5 nights (31/12/15-5/1/16). The configuration of the 2 units worked perfectly for our family of 2 adults (blue apartment) and 3 children (orange apartment). The actual apartments are brand new and are fabulously fitted out for holiday makers. John and Lynne met us on arrival and offered us much assistance in the way of local knowledge and offered many local discount vouchers for the local businesses. John was very quick to tend to a slight issue we had with the dishwasher and was very generous offering us rain gear for the wet days. The location itself was ideal as a "springboard" into Nelson, Abel Tasman National Park, Golden Bay and Murchison. And by the look of the other accomodation on offer looked like it was the nicest around. The apartments are down the road (750m) from the Wharf area which has a real vibe about it in the evenings and with sunset not until 9.30pm at this time of year the Wharf was a great spot (with many restaurants and a large area for the kids to run around) to end a day after returning from many an adventure. All in all it was a very good experience for our family and we will be back in the future to explore more of the Abel Tasman National Park and most certainly would recommend it to our friends. Thanks John and Lynne

Thanks Bronwyn - it was lovely to host you and your family and we would love to have you visit again. We are glad you enjoyed your time in Mapua and the surrounding region. The region just won best summer holiday spot in NZ so we are basking in the reflected glory. Thank you also for helping resolve the dishwasher malfunction!

We had a fabulous time in Mapua.. What a quaint, relaxing and fun experience. Our accommodation was beautifully decorated and well positioned to the Abel Tasman National Park, Nelson and Motueka. The accommodation was spacious and top quality with a super comfortable bed. Very good value for money with very helpful and friendly hosts who provided great local tips and hospitality. Thoroughly recommended accommodation.

Response from John & Lynne:
Thanks Karen. ...loved your enthusiasm curiosity! Mapua is a little gem, for sure - I'm creating a blog/map and at last count there were 11 (yes eleven) cafes/restaurants within 4 minute walking distance , 6 of them on the Wharf. Next trip for you or your family you'll have to do the winery tour in upper Moutere!

John and I moved to Mapua in February 2015. We fell ‘in love’ with the Village during a family camping holiday in 2012 and decided to build a home here. It’s been an adventure and we have met some great people – it’s such a friendly place. John is semi-retired and a keen cyclist, gardener and DIYer. I’m not such a keen cyclist or gardener but I try. Now that we live on the Great Taste Cycle Trail cycling has more appeal. We have lots of landscaping to do around our new homes and I’m sure that will keep us busy for a while. We are hoping that by next year we will have an outdoor fire pit and pizza oven as a social/common area for our guests and ourselves. I’m looking forward to enjoying pizza and conversation with our guests but I suspect before then I’ll be doing some digging!
