Our fully remodeled "farmhouse-chic" home is the perfect base camp for your Durango adventure. Walking distance to both downtown and trails, it's a perfect location. Enjoy the many comfortable spaces inside and out. This is our primary residence, rented only when we're out of town - limited availability as consequence.
Our home is a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house built in the 50s and lovingly updated over the years with a full makeover in 2014. The home as a very inviting and open floor plan with living, dining, and kitchen areas all one big room. The kitchen is meant for cooking with all new appliances, eat-in island with two stools, and oversized farmhouse sink. The living room is anchored by a large functional wood stove (can heat much of house in winter). Just off of the living room is a separate den space with TV and big comfy leather couches. Note that the TV is equipped with Chromecast and DVD player but no cable/satellite. The home isn't big (only 1600 sq ft not including sunroom) but lives very comfortably. The front bedroom is larger and we consider it our master bedroom. It has a queen bed with new Casper mattress. The back bedroom is smaller but also has a queen bed and newer mattress. The middle bedroom is our daughter's nursery and isn't functional for anything but that. If you aren't traveling with a child that needs a crib we will likely lock the room off. The final sleeping area is the loft which is accessed by ladder from the den and looks down into the kitchen. It has a full/double futon mattress on sleeping platform and sitting area but is not tall enough for grown adults to stand up in. It's not and warm in the winter but can be too warm in the summer. It's for the more adventurous souls in your group! The bathrooms in the home are simple with both having full tub showers. The location and outdoor space of the home can't be beat. We have a park across the street only used by folks in the neighborhood, but you'll want to spend your time in the backyard. It's our oasis with vegetable gardens, fire pit, gas grill, and lots of green grass. Access to trails and town is also a huge plus. The home is located 3 blocks from the Leyden trailhead for Overend Mountain Park (dozens of miles of trails) and a 10 minute walk from the river/downtown.
Guests have access to the whole house minus the nursery (unless requested otherwise), dressers and closet in large bedroom, and outdoor storage shed.
Interaction with guests
If the house is rented, we are out of town and will be completely out of your hair. We are fanatical with our passion for Durango and happy to share our local knowledge to help guests get the most from their time in our paradise.
Other things to note
Our cat, Alley, will be hanging out during your stay. Guest preference on how much time she spends in the house. As long as she has access to her food and water in the sunroom, she's good. She will certainly bother you at the door on your way in and out of the house, though.
Note that two things that most people have, we do not: no microwave, no cable. An oven and Chromecast + DVD player is as close as we get.
If you're interested in a discount for watching our very sweet, independent, low maintenance border collie during your stay, let us know upon inquiring.
Be quiet, clean, and respectful. Be upfront and honest with your group size. Treat the house as you would want us to treat yours (and add a little extra effort to that - we keep our home in immaculate condition). This is our only home and most loved material possession. Please treat it with kindness.
