Basic, no frills, affordable suite – your base to explore the beautiful Comox Valley and beyond? Suburban environment, treed with asphalt roads. Short drive, longer walk or bike ride to Comox destinations, including shops, beaches, and woods. Bus stops nearby. North Island College/new hospital: ~ 13 minutes by bus ~ 9 by car. Courtenay by car: less than 15. Cumberland: 20+ Mt Washington: ~ 35 minutes; Ferry to Denman and Hornby Islands: ~½ hr. Campbell River: ~40

The space

L shaped room (318 sq. ft. or approx. 30 square meters) with privacy door has two picture windows and Far Infrared Sauna in small part of L shape. Queen size bed and single bed with adjustable curtain between for privacy. Small four piece bathroom for your exclusive use is down the hall near the entrance. Suite is independent to rest of house. Laundry is shared so we may have to make arrangements with you for its use.
Bnb as in 'bed and bath' – food/beverages/breakfast is not provided but facilities are. Fridge, freezer, toaster/oven, hot plate, (no microwave) in laundry room with washer/dryer as counter space. Far infrared sauna is a dry sauna (we just hop in with our clothes on) (Look up health properties). NO cable.
Photos show rooms as brighter than actual; small changes in furnishings have been made since photos were taken. Carport is more cluttered than in photo. The suite is clean and well cared for, but not updated, thus more affordable! Cabin like. As it is situated on the ground level, it is a bit cool--temperature wise. Bring a fleece or sweater.
There is a Queen size bed in the large bed sitting area and a single bed in an offshoot of this room (somewhat separated by a bit of a room divider curtain)

Guest access

Your space is independent from the rest of the house (separate side door entrance under cover of carport). As well, you may make use of the yard etc., park in the driveway, and the carport -- including table and books, frizbees, etc. for borrowing. If needed, we can arrange access to a shed for storing bikes or snowboards.

Interaction with guests

Our interactions with guests vary according to what's happening with everybody at the time. When you first arrive, we usually like to share a brief introduction to the suite, and each other as we will be in separate suites in the same home. However, we may not be present during your stay. If we are not in town, we will communicate with you via phone, text, or internet. We also have many helpful neighbours. Either way, whether we are at home or not, please ask us questions as they arise. Whether you contact us in person, by phone, text or email, a quick question can go a long way. Let's be honest and open with each other and work as a team!

Very nice ground-level suite with a whole lot of amenities. The hosts are friendly and helpful. They even brought us fresh eggs from local farms, and offered to return our infant's bib that we left at the suite. The suite was slightly cooler at night than we imagined, but it turned out to be a big advantage during the labour weekend heatwave. We'd certainly recommend this place to travellers.

Response from David And Frances:
It sure was a hot weekend, wasn't it, Pooya? Thanks for your review. For the sake of potential guests I'd like to add these comments: Guests know that ours is a bring your own food listing, and the rest is incidental, but thank you for highlighting the coolness of the suite. Depending on people's activity levels, it can be quite cool. We do ask people to bring along layers and socks. In winter, when the heating is on, we have all of the vents closed upstairs and open down, so that helps but it is still important to be prepared for the coolness with extra layers handy for wearing.

David and Frances were very friendly hosts and willing to give suggestions amd recommendations on things to do and see. We were very busy so unfortunately didn't have a lot of time to sight-see but will hopefully be back. Their place had everything we needed and was very cozy and comfortable.

David and Frances are a lovely couple and super friendly hosts! They have a lot of suggestions for activities if you ask them, and they're very helpful! The cozy suite is big and had everything we needed for our week there. Equipped kitchen with a cottage feel to it where we prepared all of our meals. All in all, I would recommend it!

My second stay in my home-away-from-home - David and Frances are great hosts, always available to answer questions and gave me my space too. I felt so welcomed from the time I booked to my arrival and during my stay. I really appreciated all the special touches, including shopping bags for groceries, a sleeping mask, plenty of pillows, soft sheets, comfortable bed, stocked kitchen where I cooked oats with raisins both provided by the hosts, plenty of towels, shampoo and soap, a TV to watch a variety of DVDs on the comfy couch with a blanket too. I stayed 4 nights and loved waking up to the hooting of an owl. I had a lovely walking tour with Frances on my last morning -thank you Frances! I would love to return next year. Thank you Frances and Dave! ~Winnie, Superhost of Pine Yoga Room in Victoria, BC

David And Frances User Profile

Fran is 65, Dave is 55. We have been enjoying life together for over 30 years. In 2007, we left our home and jobs in Winnipeg and traveled around, visiting old friends and family, meeting new people, and volunteering. We stayed at hostels and on farms and retreat centres where we volunteered. After our travels that took us all the way to an organic hobby farm in Costa Rica, we found our new home in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. Four years later, Airbnb came into our lives. Thanks to Airbnb and hosting, we have been able to afford to stay in our Comox home, enjoying our simple life. Currently, we are recuperating from 2 intense years of managing the care of David's mother, and most days find us involved in some mix of catching up on home and yard care and clearing space by de-cluttering and re-organizing. All to prepare for our next adventure and just plain enjoying the simple life. We do a lot of food preparation because we eat only organic and make pretty much all of our own food and it can be challenging to keep up with ourselves. We enjoy short walks or bike rides, music, fibre arts, writing, reading, researching, and meeting new people. A dream we have is to live on a patch of land in the countryside. In the meantime, we are loving our lives in the wonderful little town of Comox by the sea on Vancouver Island.
