John was a great host. We had a private room in the back with a porch. It was a cozy place.

You need a car, when you want to stay at Johns place. It's in the mountains with a wonderful view and amazing sunsets. It's clean and quite, perfect to relax. John is very warm hearted and makes you feel very welcome. I would recommend this place and would stay there again. Thanks John

John is a fantastic host!. Super responsive in his communications, helpful with every detail and very thoughtful. Really good value for money for staying in the Big Island and a fantastic view of the sunset from the deck. You'll need a car to get around - but that's pretty much the case in all of Hawaii.

John is a very welcoming host, I enjoyed the fresh fruit he provided to me on arrival. This is a huge studio room with a private entrance. It has a king sized bed and a sleeper sofa, living room, full kitchen and a private bathroom. It could easily handle a family or four adults. Easy to find, about 20 minutes south of the Kona airport and three blocks off State Hwy 11. In a quiet residential area, close to all the attractions on the island. You could use this place as your main touring location.

John's a great, laid-back host—very friendly and always helpful. I stayed in the upstairs "Dolphin room," and it was a good size for the week and a half I spent on the island with all the gear for about five different sports. You should know that the unit is open to the air (with screens to keep the bugs out), so sound does travel, but it also makes for a nice inside/outside feel and let's the space breathe. The shared kitchen and eating area is just outside on the deck, making it a nice way to meet the other folks staying at the house or just enjoying the views of the ocean and the wildlife. While it feels secluded and like a retreat from civilization, it's very convenient to the best bits of Kona. I hope to have the chance to make it back soon.

John immediately connected with me through text and was able to work an extra night in prior to my trip's start date. He is laid back, flexible, well organized, and very generous. The house had a few other guests, ample parking space, a brilliant view of the Kona coast, and was only 5-10 minutes away from bayfront and the hotels. I stayed with John because I was shooting a film in Kona. Each day, I came back late at night and left early in the morning. This timing was not an issue because John gave me a key and a lock for the room I was staying in. My room, as well as the other rooms, was accessible from the outside of the house, therefore providing ease of privacy. I would recommend staying here for the value as long as you have a vehicle. I'll be coming back!

I am a bit of an eclectic person, I like to do cultural travel, grow tropical exotic fruit, definately into the whole health and wellness thing. I've found that I really enjoy the hosting aspect of having people come into my home and us get to know each other over the course of their stay. Maybe it's the massage therapist in me but I really enjoy the satisfaction that comes with providing a good experience for my guests, be it good advice on what to see and do, brewing fresh coffee in the morning, or having everything clean, ready, and in order when guests arrive. Having traveled a lot myself (staying in everything from hostels and guesthouses to five-star hotels), I know only too well what kinds of things are important to me in a homestay -- conveint location, clean linens, a comfy bed, helpful people that turn me onto the to do's of the place and a hot shower after a long day of traveling or sightseeing. Oh, and a friendly host, of course.. I really, really enjoy living on the Big Island of Hawaii and know it pretty well. I'm amazed every day that a place as special as this exists and that I get to call it home and I'm thrilled when I get to share it with others. Hope to see you soon!
