The kitchen, built by my own rugged hands. I guess this is a bed, really. And some lights. And clothes storage.

Description

The space

25 square metres studio apartment, situated right in the heart of Plagne Bellecote.

Situated at 2000m there's lots of snow and you can ski from and to the door. It's pretty cool. The apt is on the 8th floor so is removed from the noise of the piste and warm from the rising heat of the rest of the building. Cosy cosy.

It's my personal home, I just have to be in London this winter, which hurts, because it's simply beautiful and lots and lots of fun out there.

La Plagne is one of the largest single ski areas in the world, with 212kms of pistes, spectacular views, unbeatable facilities and lifts that rate as some of the best in the world. La Plagne Bellecote is very conveniently located for the link to Les Arcs by cable car, so you can enjoy both resorts within a four-minute journey.

Beanbags, all the kitchen bits you'd like, a ski locker, balcony, shops within 100m.. bar even closer. Yep, this is funtown. a

Interaction with guests

I'll post keys and that will be about it I guess. I'll be on the phone if you need me, obviously.

Getting around

There are buses between the villages around La Plagne, and up from the station - so travel by train from anywhere in Europe is very easy.

House Rules

Just .. look after the place and be nice?

Getting here

Train goes to “Aime La Plagne” at the foot of the mountain. Depending on when you go and come back, and where you’re travelling to, you may have to return from “Bourg St Maurice” further down the valley floor. There are buses from both from Transports Berard.

Buses go to and from the valley from Transports Berard. They drop you at point 26 on the map below.

Car you can park right outside whilst you unload, but then move your car down to the free parking at point 4 on the map below.

Keys

I’ll post the keys to you before you get there. Please post them back to

Ed Dowding
2-10 Shropshire House
Capper St
London
WC1E 6JA

There is a spare set of keys in the apartment. PLEASE LEAVE THESE HERE WHEN YOU LEAVE. They are here so you can ski in two groups and not have to worry about getting back at the same time.

On arrival

Everything should be good to go, but just in case:

Electricity master switch is the orange switch on the box above the main door. Turn it clockwise.
Linen should be on the beds
Internet is the network “824 Glaciers III” and the password is: lapinrouge
Laundry

At the start of the week your laundry should have been left on the bed by the previous guests. If not, please accept my apologies for trusting people to be nice, and then head on down to the main shopping area. In there you’ll find the “Pressing” where I have an account. Say you’re from 824 Glaciers III and they’ll sort you out.

If you need additional bedding (not towels) you can also rent it from here.

Towels

Please take your own towels.

When leaving

To keep your costs down, and because you’re the sort of nice person who’d not leave a flat dirty, there is no cleaner. The flat is pretty small and it takes one person about 20 minutes to do all of the below, so do it with a friend and you’ll be done in no time and you’ll save yourself the money it would have cost for a cleaner. It feels good to be good.

Check you’ve not left anything on the balcony
Clean the bathroom (bath, basin)
Flush the loo
Quick once over on the floor
Clean the kitchen
Empty the bins
Remove perishable food
Clean the cooking hobs
Clean the microwave, if used
Wipe down the work-top
Hoover (it’s under the shelves in the main room)
Take dirty linen to the laundry and pick up a clean load
Leave laundry and duvets on the beds
Turn off the radiator — IMPORTANT!!
Turn off the lights
Remember to leave one set of keys — IMPORTANT!!

Ed was very welcoming, and really helpful throughout our stay. His apartment is perfect for two people and very conveniently located for ski hire, outdoor swimming pool, supermarket, chemist etc. You can ski in directly from the learner slope to the apartments rear door- very convenient.

Was a very good experience. Ed explained everything beforehand, was very quick in his responses and very precise. We liked the apartment very much, first, because it has a private touch, many things done there by Ed himself and that makes you feel at home. It has all the necessary things for the stay, all the essentials for cooking, and very comfortable bed for a good restoring sleep. There are also many books in case you want to read something and WIFI is available. Close to apartment there are plenty of things, including swimming pool, ice-skating, bars, restaurants, shops, and, you can ski-in and out just from the front door! The only bad thing is that we had to leave))

Ed was an excellent host and the flat was just what we were looking for. As soon as we got settled, the place felt like home. Location was really ideal for ski and après-ski. Probably the biggest Spar in La Plagne is just there, there's a bakery open nice and early to collect breakfast and once you are ready to go, the ski lifts to most of the resort are right at the doorstep. When we're looking to ski next year, returning here will be high on the list. :)

We called Ed's place in Bellecote home for a whole month...Would of loved to have stayed for another month! Excellant location, great use of space within the apartment itself, warm, homely, and must not forget.. Incredible snow!!

Great value. Location was also very good. You are located near 3 different lifts of the mountain. You can utilize a nearby food store and the kitchen in the unit to prepare your own food and save a lot of money. None of the nearby restaurants really blew us away, but they weren't bad. The apartment itself was small, but works out well. The beds were not terrible comfortable (thin foam mattress), but that might bother other's more or less. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment and non-perishable supplies from other guests. One thing i wish I knew would be that there are both EU and UK outlets in the unit, so no need to pack plug adapters. The apartment has a very DIY feel to it. Almost everything seems to be built by Ed. Not a bad thing, just a comment. The wireless internet that was provided was fast enough for VOIP calls and uploading photos.

Spend a perfect week in French Alps. Even I fall on the second day and got injured. Thanks to Ed apartments are full with books, so I was reading a lot during this week. Generally the resort is almost perfect. Sure it's the best I've visit. Apartments are small, but it's more that enough for two persons. The design inside is nice and ecologically clean. Doesn't mean much for me, but maybe someone reading this will consider saving nature to be a decision point. Getting out skiing you will find your-self just in front of one of the chair-lifts. Take it, and you can get down the slope to other ones in Bellecote without walking. Be advised that half of the plugs are of 'British' design. These are the ones under working table. Kitchen and bath are European.
