About this listing

Looking for a peaceful, secluded getaway spot? Our private round house in the coffee growing region of southwest Puerto Rico is a nature lover's paradise! Two bedrooms, full bath with HOT shower, kitchen, covered patio, sundeck, and outdoor shower. Borders the Maricao Forest for world class birding. Your only neighbors are coquis and tropical birds - you may even glimpse a rare Puerto Rican parrot! Your stay helps support the nonprofit Renewed Hope-see description for more info.

The space

**When you stay with us you are helping to support the nonprofit Renewed Hope / Esperanza Renovada, which assists those living with or recovering from cancer to find renewed hope to move forward in their lives. Full information on the project will be provided upon request.**

Our unique round house (actually a 12 sided building called a dodecagon), located in the mountains of southwest Puerto Rico on the quiet northern edge of the Maricao Forest Reserve, is the perfect place to relax and reconnect! The short walk in (1000 feet from top of road down to cabin) allows for complete privacy, yet in less than an hour's drive you can be on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Let the coquis (a variety of frogs only found in Puerto Rico) sing you to sleep under the stars!

A fully equipped two bedroom house with all of the modern amenities you could want in the middle of the bosque, our place is perfect for couples, but also works well for friends or a small family.

The Maricao Forest Reserve is a world class birding destination. This part of Puerto Rico is the "quiet side" of the island, but has many nearby beaches and attractions. The rare Puerto Rican parrot may be spotted during your stay - there are plans to release approximately 30 birds in November of 2016!

House includes these features:

*Unique 12-sided design
*530 square feet, fully furnished
*Two bedrooms, one with queen size bed and one with full size futon
*Additional futon in living room allows sleeping for up to 6 people
*Fully equipped kitchen, including refrigerator, microwave, electric hot plate, coffee maker, toaster and toaster oven
*Charcoal grill and fire ring
*Indoor and outdoor showers
*Covered patio
*An absolute guarantee of NO SNOW!

There is excellent cell phone reception, but no interruptions from TV or internet. Internet reception is available on the Maricao town square, and at many restaurants around the island.

We have a caretaker when we are not in P.R., and we are just a phone call away if you need anything at all.

Guest access

You will have access to the entire house and all of the facilities, including a sundeck off the main bedroom and a covered patio.

Interaction with guests

We will be available via Airbnb messaging (preferred), phone, text, or email during your stay. We also have a caretaker nearby if you need anything.

Other things to note

The house is on what used to be a municipal road. No one has lived on the road for many years, so the municipality has not maintained it. The road is kept mowed by our caretaker and looks like a wide grassy path. To reach the house you MUST park your car at the top and walk in. (We suggest using a backpack to bring just what you need down the hill. This makes coming back up much easier!). The walk in is downhill, about 1000 feet, and will take about 5 minutes. This location is what makes the experience truly special...the house is completely secluded, private, and peaceful.

The house really works best for 1-4 people. Treat it as you would your own home away from home. Enjoy yourself and leave things neat and clean for the next guest! Smoking outside only. Garbage and recycling must be handled carefully so as not to attract unwanted "guests" because this is a tropical area. Information about the house and the area can be found on site.

If you are looking for a secluded place to enjoy nature, this is definitely the place. The view is spectacular. Just make sure you are in good health to navigate the hill leading to the house.

The cabin was everything we expected. Secluded, cozy, romantic, with a great view and everything you need. The outdoor shower with hot water is amaizing! But we highly recommend you bring your own bed sheets and towel.

Definitely a hidden gem! That being said, follow the directions provided by Kathy to get here. Gps may appear to have a faster/more direct route but it's not true! Her directions were quick, clear and very thorough. I absolutely loved the mountains and hiking through the rain forest was by far my favorite part of the whole trip to Puerto Rico

A great place for relaxing in a quite beautiful place. Kind of hard to find but totally worth it. A decent hike in but that's what makes it so quite.

My husband and I enjoy peaceful, off-the-beaten-path places. We like to do most everything for ourselves, and we put ourselves into everything we do. When you stay with us, you aren't just renting a room, you're sharing our dream come true.

Both Dennis and I are artisans. Dennis makes anything and everything out of wood, from small boxes to entire homes. His most beautiful creations are hardwood music stands, which you could almost call sculptures. I make jewelry from sea glass which I find on beaches on Puerto Rico. I am also a singer/songwriter/guitar player.

We live in the beautiful, hilly Driftless Region of southwestern Wisconsin (the only part of the Midwest U.S. that never saw the glaciers), and have a 2 bedroom cabin in the mountains of Puerto Rico, in the midst of coffee country. We designed and built both of our places, and they are both "do-decagons", or 12 sided circular structures, so staying with us is really an experience that is "outside the box"!

We love to travel to new places, but also return to Puerto Rico several times each year. We have hosted 12 exchange students from all over the world, have traveled to Germany, Canada, and the Caribbean, love biking, hiking, and are certified SCUBA divers, and we're animal lovers, too (especially big silly yellow labs!).

I speak English as well as some French and a bit of Spanish, with sprinkles of German thrown in for good measure! I love to cook, so if you stay with us in Wisconsin you might just get a great meal as an added bonus! Our hosting style is as involved or as "hands off" as you like--you choose!

We hope you will enjoy your stay with us. We look forward to meeting you!
