About this listing

Bowhayes Farm is a thatched Devon longhouse built, we think, in the 1600’s. We have tried to retain its period features wherever possible and the accommodation has been finished to a very high standard using natural materials such as reclaimed oak and slate.

We offer a double bedroom with Queen sized bed, on a B&B basis with private bathroom, use of a communal sitting room with wood burning stove, satellite TV, DVD and Wi-Fi. Sumptuous breakfasts and warm hospitality are our speciality!

The space

Bowhayes Farm is the home of 'De-Stressage' - a unique project that offers an insight into 'The Horses' World'. Our 'tame, wild horses' live outdoors 24/7, are unshod and live in social groups. Observing their interaction and serenity provides clients with an opportunity to see life from a new perspective. Programmes can be tailored to individuals needs and can include our 'Yoga on Horseback' sessions which enhance core strength and body awareness.
Situated in the beautiful Culm Valley on the edge of the Blackdown Hills AONB, the farm offers breathtaking views and access to spectacular walks and cycle rides.
Our accommodation has been designed with comfort and relaxation in mind. We want you to feel 'at home from home' in the peace and privacy that we provide.
We have associate practitioners providing a range of treatments such as Bowen, Shiatsu, Acupuncture, beauty therapy etc that will visit by appointment.

Guest access

Your own front door opens to self-contained accommodation comprising of 2 double bedrooms (the larger double can be made as a twin if required) with private bathrooms and a sitting room with wood-burning stove, satellite TV, DVD and free Wi-Fi. Kitchen facilities (mini oven with hob, fridge, tea and coffee making equipment, toaster) are also provided giving the feel of a private cottage but with breakfast cooked for you!

Interaction with guests

Your host will be available throughout your stay to advise on local amenities, book tables and taxis and generally make your dreams come true!

Other things to note

Please note that this is an old property and has steep stairs so may not be suitable for people with mobility problems. We regret that we cannot allow dogs but have several available to cuddle should the need arise!

This is an absolutely stunning place to stay. Its long history has been restored and maintained in a very nice way. The rooms are exactly what you expect in a 400+ year old home and it's amazing to look at the at different rooms. Very spacious, clean and just modern enough to make it a relaxing place to stay. This is easily the best place on airbnb I have ever stayed. Ps. We had dinner at the Ashill Inn (try and book a table here if you can) it was amazing.

Lucinda was incredibly welcoming and make us feel right at home right from the start. The accommodation is extremely clean throughout and the setting overlooking the valley is wonderful. The breakfasts are absolutely extraordinary - don't plan to do to any too strenuous straight afterwards! Lucinda also is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful with regards local services and amenities and on a number of occasions helped to to secure travel to our intended destinations. I cannot recommend a stay at Bowhayes B&B highly enough.

The Bowhayes Farm experience was just absolutely beautiful! Lucinda and Geoff were so warm and gracious and helpful---breakfast was simply amazing! Those delicious extremely orange eggs (high Omega3? ) and sausages were cooked to perfection. Walking into the cottage itself is like meeting an old friend or maybe returning to a familiar room from a past life---with its thatched roof and two-foot thick walls ---feels like stepping back in time and yet the two sparkling baths have all the modern conveniences. Spacious and cozy at the same time--the photos online give only a hint of how lovely this place is!

Our stay was truly magical which, considering it was only for one night, makes it even more incredible. Amazing host, amazing breakfast, bed, dogs, horses, everything was perfect. Of all the bnbs between Exeter and London we had to chose from, we're so glad our first choice was the best! We will be back

My family and I had a short but pleasant stay at Lucinda's cottage. She was very welcoming and the accommodation was brilliant - well appointed and comfortable. I would thoroughly recommend this B&B. Thank you.

Oh my goodness. I can't say enough good things about my stay with Lucinda! First of all, the space: a cozy old building with exposed beams coupled with the modern reliability of high-end baths. The kitchen was well-equipped for making your own meals, though Lucinda's hearty breakfasts always kept me sated until dinner. Lucinda is very attentive to all the details that make her guests feel welcome and comfortable. She and her assistant, Sarah, are such spirited and animated storytellers I wish they had a series I could tune into each week. The farm itself is also home to about 40 horses, including a family group who are situated closes to the main house to welcome guests. My booking was somewhat last minute, and despite her busy schedule, Lucinda accommodated my requests for riding lessons in addition to responding promptly to my booking inquiry. Although I found her place because I had business in nearby Exeter, I will actually make Lucinda's farm a destination the next time I am in the UK.
