While the room we were provided was not the one in the pictures it was very similar and to a good standard. Comfortable and clean with good wifi. The area of Santiago it is in is safe and we were happy to walk around in the evenings to go to great local restaurants. Fanny the host was easy to contact. Her english was far from perfect but good enough to be hospitable and helpful. Happy to recommend to other Airbnb travellers!

James Begin forwarded message: From: Jamesmcgough Date: September 1, 2017 at 1:52:04 PM EDT To: James McGough Subject: Chile When I left I gave keys back to the front desk person who gave them to me. I could not stay in this apt. Here is how my experience unfolded and what scared me from beginning. First you cancel my confirmed Arbnb reservation while I'm in route from prior hotel in Portillo that I had already checked out of. When my limo driver asks me where he is to bring me I try to explain to him that I don't know anymore??? Understand that I don't speak Spanish and him no English. So we continue to Santiago not knowing where I am to sleep? This is not funny to me. You were considerate to try and find me a replacement apt while I'm in route to Santiago. I appreciated this as I have no choice but to accept. I have no means while riding to city to look for alternatives. You do come thru with another apartment. Which I am grateful for until arriving. When moving luggage out of limo I ask driver if it is ok to walk and get something to eat. My driver who is from Santiago says that I do not want to be walking around this neighborhood as it is dangerous. Great start. The building Is located in a corner of a dark street behind locked doors and gates. People are hanging around outside first floor balconies. Conversing with people on street below. I had asked but you never replied to my question of how I would get keys to get in and general information that is typically available for AirBnb quests. I got nothing but a street address by text from you. A guy unlocks a steel door and gives me keys. That's it. He then Sits down and basically disregards me. I receive no additional information. I now wander around hallways which are old dark, dirty and smell of disinfectant fighting a losing battle to cover deeper odors. I had to use my Iphone flashlight to find apt. number due to darkness and that most numbers had been painted over. When I enter room I find: -No sofa or couch to sit on. - All bed linens were stained dirty and old and tired. - Bathroom smelled of urine. -Toilet would not stop running -Wifi connection barely works. -finally a pack of 10-12 dogs begin barking and howling outside window. Maybe this appropriate for Santiago but not for me and not what I know of AirBnB. I turn on my cellular network and book another hotel for twice the price and get Uber to bring me to new hotel. I don't believe anyone, especially a foreigner who does not speak Spanish would say this was an enjoyable experience. If you find my actions unreasonable we can open this up again. Otherwise, I'll leave this with a thank you for at least trying...
