About this listing

Dad's House is a comfy home that has a cabin-like feel. Tucked away in the Shenandoah valley, our 305 acre property is a quiet, remote, and relaxing area that looks over the blue ridge mountains and hills. As you can see in the pictures the kitchen, living room-dining room area, and the valley-view porch are in an open arrangement and the lodge and master bedroom are 20 feet down the hall. Downstairs is a clean working basement with an attached double-twin bedroom and concrete porch.

The space

Dad's House is immediately comforting. Our guests say they can breathe here. We believe it's a great place for a single-person to find solitude and inspiration, a couple to find sacred time together, and a family to find memories together that will last.

Guest access

You'll be able to access the whole upstairs, the washer and dryer, and the basement if your family needs the space.

If you need other places to sleep we have a fold-up cot. And also available for children are crib, pack-n-play, toddler bed, highchair and booster seat.

Kitchen has toaster, coffee-maker, microwave, dishes, utensils, kitchen linens, dishwasher, refrigerator and stove.

Dad's House also comes with TV, VCR/DVD player, cassette player, radio, all bed and bath linens, iron and ironing board, central heat/AC, gas fireplace, gas grill, and WI-FI. In the home we also have cards, books, board games and movies for VCR/DVD. On the land we have horse shoes and a campfire site.

On our 305 acres, we also have hiking trails through wooded areas, a calming creek that runs through the woods, and beautiful views. In fact, our favorite spot on our land is called Hill Beautiful. It's breathtaking.

Free local calls. Long distance calls by phone credit card only.

Interaction with guests

We've been doing this for awhile so we understand that this time is for you and we don't want to disturb that. We do, however, live next-door so if you need anything at all, please do not hesitate to knock on the door, text or call if you need anything. We want to make your stay better.

Other things to note

Just to note again, we do have WI-FI.

This was a wonderful peaceful place of beauty and rest for our family. Highly recommend.

The house is maintained like a good hotel instead of some rental properties which are sort of clean, and have a few staples like 2 rolls of toilet paper, maybe 2 trash bags but Teresa's house is well stocked with all the extras. The house is very tasteful, comfortable and sparklingly clean. The setting is gorgeous. the only thing that could be improved is the Wi-Fi which was a little sketchy. It is probably the location. I know at my daughter's it is impossible to get a good signal consistently no matter what we try. Teresa made us feel just like family. We hope to come back every time we visit my daughter,

A great place for a family or friend reunion. Remotely nestled in the hills, the place offered a very comfortable interior, plus a loveley view of the mountains in the distance. Also, the kitchen had all the hardware/supplies to make home-cooked meals easy. My group of six adults and two young children found it to be just what we were looking for!

Response from Teresa:
Sorry our remoteness was not what you wanted, but we are only 1/2 hour drive from Lexington or Staunton and we enjoy not having to travel in lots of traffic!

We had a great time, the home and surrounding property were lovely. Teresa was a friendly and helpful host. We had a wonderful time and hope to head back before too long.

Teresa was a wonderful host and Dad's Place was perfect for our family (Dad, Mom and 5 kids). The house was more than sufficient in space and accommodations. The location was great, far enough away to feel secluded but close enough to civilization to get what we needed. The cows, bunnies, and deer were great entertainment for all of us.

This is a beautiful, quiet home. It was within easy driving distance of multiple college campuses but also very private and beautiful.

This was our first experience with AirBnb and it was a great one! Theresa could not have been a better hostess, and the home could not have been more comfortable. We felt like we were staying with family, except with all the privacy we desired. When our minivan got a flat tire, Theresa's family even helped my husband and even recommended a great place to get a new one. What a precious family! The house had plenty of room and all the comforts of home. We found a booster seat for our toddler, and when I forgot my blow dryer I found one under the sink. Theresa seems to have thought of everything. I appreciated being able to wash laundry so it didn't pile up. It is a bit of a drive to town, but this area of Virginia was breathtaking. My two-year old loved going out to see the cows in the morning. I highly recommend to anyone and I would definitely return again!

Hi guests,

I'm Teresa, though you may call me Terry. I've lived on this property since 1974 with my husband and our 6 kids. We began this endeavor of hosting through familial relationships, thus the reason for Mom's and Dad's House. Through the years we've come to enjoy bringing fellow travelers through our property as a way to share the God-given beauty of creation. We see our homes as a haven for our children, regulars, and new arrivals.

Other things about us; my husband Harry was a general in the army, one of my son's is currently a Colonel, and my other wonderful children are across the board and across the country from therapist to stay at home Dad.

Our life motto is to try and better serve our friends and family the way Jesus Loves the world, through compassion and sacrifice.

We hope you enjoy your stay,

The MacGregor's
