The cottage is private, sunny, warm, and full of color! Newly remodeled bathroom and kitchenette, a view of our cherry & magnolia trees, surrounded by artwork and flowers, this is a serene and inspiring hide-away. Minutes to the beach & Capitola Village, restaurants, art galleries and easy shopping. The bed is a queen sized memory foam mattress and the space is roomy and open. Sleep late or wake early to the flowers and sunlight!

The space

Sunny, and peaceful and set at the back of our property the cottage is warm and cozy. The space is roomy, bright and well appointed. You'll be warmed by a brand new hydronic heater, and sleep peacefully on a memory foam mattress, with fluffy pillows and soft linens. Everything in the bathroom and kitchenette is brand new. Kitchenette has a small fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and electric kettle for tea! Lots of dishes, glasses, cups, simple cutlery and kitchen basics, like cheese boards, salad bowls, etc. There are two patios for you to enjoy, each with comfy seating for afternoon wine or meals, one under our cherry tree, and a sunnier option by your front door! The cottage has a TV, blue ray player and Direct TV service.

We've lived here for 20 years and for 10 of those this has been our art studio (which it still is, when we don't have guests!). The mosaic counter top was hand-made, mostly by Jill, aided by a collaborative family effort. The space is filled with original art work from local artists and will inspire your imagination!

We'll leave a few snacks to nourish you after a journey, and lots of info about our beautiful coastal community.

Guest access

The cottage is through a gate to the right of the house, down a pathway and tucked into the sunny back corner of our property. We'll leave you a welcome packet and a key that allows you free access whether we're home or not.

There are two patios for you to enjoy, both just outside of the cottage, one with the small round table, umbrella and two chairs, one with the wooden chairs and a small table for drinks or snacks. We have designed the cottage and its outdoor space for your privacy, and we will not come back to that area of the property when we have guests, unless we call you first. We also ask that guests respect our privacy by using only those 2 patios. Our house is situated such that anyone in our backyard or in the carport area can look directly into our house. Of course we welcome you to use the pathway and carport to come and go from the cottage, but the garden pathways and seating, as well as the carport seating is for the residents of our house only. We want you to enjoy a peaceful private setting, and hope to maintain our privacy as well.

We tend to lock the gate at night, but only after we see your car tucked into the driveway. If you’re going to be out late, we’ll certainly leave it open for you. We try to leave the light on by the gate to help you find your way.

Interaction with guests

If you're in the search for privacy, our space is perfect for you. The cottage is separate from the main house, on the back of the property.
We will be available to greet you if schedules align, or happily leave a key if you arrive in the evening. Jill works two minutes from the house and is always available in case of urgent matters or the run of the mill questions ( like...what's the best place to get Thai food? Where's the best farmer's market?).

Other things to note

As California is still in a drought, we ask that our guests are mindful about their shower times and water usage.

We are a pet free home and property, so those with allergies can rest assured there are no furry creatures!

We LOVE children, but this space is simply not well suited for little ones.

Our first air bnb and it was great. A wonderful little hideaway, a short trip to the beach and some good food nearby. Hoping all our future stays will be as good as this was. Much better than a hotel and we loved the design of the cottage.

The description of the place is accurate. It's very convenient if you have things to do in soquel. Note that it's next to the freeway so there is highway noise in the shared garden (which is nicely water saving). The neighbourhood is not scenic but it's ok.

This was a great Airbnb, comfortable and well equipped. Great garden area to sit outside in. Walkable in about 30min to restaurants by the beach. Sadly we did not get to meet Jill or her family whilst staying at her accommodation.

We loved our stay in the dragonfly cottage. It was a perfectly relaxing experience, and the cottage had everything we needed and more. The bed was so comfortable and the patio area watching the birds was so peaceful. Jill and Julia were really friendly and helpful in answering our questions. We would highly recommend this place!

This cottage has everything you need for a quiet beachy getaway. Jill was helpful and communicative, the space was relaxing and pleasing to the eye, and my husband and I enjoyed our stay. It was the perfect home base while we visited nearby beaches, restaurants, and shops. I highly recommend staying at the Dragonfly Cottage!
