The Koke`e Experience

We hope that our guests can appreciate the unique opportunity it is to have simple access to stay in the natural beauty of our State Parks; Koke`e Park / Waimea Canyon. This is a rare and valuable treasure that those in the know have great appreciation for.
There are many who feel the Koke`e Experience is paralleled by no other. Hiking temperatures are perfect. Access is as easy as it could be. The visual rewards are simply spectacular. Combine this with the cultural heritage of such a place and you have the makings of a deep experience thick with wonder and spirituality.
This being said, this remote location does come with some inconveniences.
These are cabins in the MOUNTAINS! Many are not accustomed to thinking that in Hawaii, you can be cold! The Cabins are located above 3000 feet. This means you can expect temperatures 20 Fahrenheit lower than at sea level. 40-70 Fahrenheit in the winter and 50-80 Fahrenheit in the summer on average. With occasional cold snaps! You may purchase high quality firewood at our check-in office, for heating with the only heat source for the Cabins; the wood burning stove. Most find building a fire at their cabin while on vacation to be a fun and unique experience.
While we work overtime to manage mountain/forest critters and foliage, you can expect to see these things at the cabins. The Cabins are also located in close proximity to the center of Kauai; touted as the wettest spot in the world. While this achieves impressive greenery, it also comes with; fallen trees, soft and/or slick soil, and mosses/mildews. As the saying goes, there is no stopping Mother Nature.
If the conditions of a wet and mountainous forest are not what you are looking for, DO NOT STAY AT THE CABINS AT KOKEE PARK! You will be much happier at one of our arid ocean level accommodations at the entrance to the park or the hotel of your choice. NOTE: Check in office is in Waimea- Cabin is located in the Park.
We look forward to servicing those who have appreciation for all the Cabins at Koke`e have to offer and hope to see you soon.

The lodge is a very good stay for a couple of days but you could stay there longer if you want to for sure. It has all the essentials and you can make it feel like at home. It is right next to a restaurant and the Koke'e museum. If you want to do some trails, staying at a cabin is the perfect stay. There are many trails up there and the drive to the beginning takes only a couple of minutes. If you want any Information about the trails, the people at the museum are happy to help you out.

We had the most magical time here. It was so fun to have a different change of pace for a few days. We spent our days hiking and our evenings play cards and cooking with the whole family. So nice to be away from our phones too!! About the cabin: It's just right. Beds were comfortable and kitchen had everything we needed and then some. The shower has great water pressure. The cabin is as pictured- clean and simple. We loved it and hope to return one day.

This cabin was super comfortable and spacious for 3 single adults. As far as a camp cabin goes, it is a 5 star 'cabin' but expect to it be a little rustic. Shower pressure was wonderful, and the big open living room was a awesome. Also, you cannot beat this location, in the heart of the most beautiful natural area I've ever seen. I recommend renting a 4WD vehicle and exploring the dirt roads. Besides the accessible look-out points, the trails barely had anyone else on them, in July, unbelievable. We felt like we had the park to ourselves. It is a long windy (but fun) ~40min drive from the nearest town, and there is ZERO cell service or Wifi, so its a great way to unplug and still be comfortable. We'd do early hikes everyday, and then drive down to the town late afternoon to go to the beach and eat JoJo's shaved ice. Highly recommend. ( note: check-in is in Waimea before heading up the mountain, not near the cabin )

The cabins were perfect. Actually, if you are used to real cabins in the woods (not houses at the lake "cabins") it was quite nice. It provides the basics. Just enough towels to get by and dishes. When they say bring your own food, dont forget the salt and pepper and cooking spray. The king bed was soft and comfortable. If you require multiple pillows to sleep, bring extras. The shower was very nice after a long hike. The chickens were built in alarm clocks. Somewhere around 4am they start. They are quite entertaining. Be sure to get some feed at the lodge to entice them into great photos.

Our cabin was amazing and a great way to experience the park! Beautiful wood burning stove, all the kitchen essentials, clean bath, and comfy bed. FYI - no wifi or cell service, but there's plenty see within the park! Check-in in Waimea town was easy and convenient. Would absolutely stay again!
