We felt the description was accurate. The house is ideal if you want a very reasonably priced, clean, pleasant room with friendly owners to find out what real life is like in Mauritius. The family all speak English, and we chatted away with them on all sorts of subjects. There's lots of palms and flowers in the garden with potted plants on stairs and balconies, and the house is stuffed with things they have collected or salvaged eg tiles from local fisherman's cottages being demolished so the complete opposite of a bland hotel room and very homely with the lamp on in the evening. The guest fridge has water, soft drinks, beer and wine with an honesty box for payment for those moments when driving 10 minutes to the supermarket in La Gaulette seems to much to bother with. Breakfasts comprised a couple of very large freshly cooked rolls, with butter, jams, cheese triangles, fresh fruit and tea or coffee with lots of other reasonably priced extra's such as eggs or yogurt available by request. You just let them know when you are up and about. We had a lovely dinner cooked for us one night and loved the home made rum Marc offered us. We stayed in both the twin room downstairs which was absolutely fine (only downside for some might be no aircon/kettle in room and couldn't get wifi in room although it was fine at the table at the front of the house) and on our return after staying in Blue Bay for a few days, the studio upstairs (pluses were aircon, small kitchen with microwave and one gas ring, decent dining area, covered external balcony and roof top area if you want to sit in the sun with good wifi signal in the room). Both rooms had bottle openers, fridges and clothes drying racks which were really handy and they were cleaned with fresh linen each day bar Sunday. The road has other similar houses on it and one or two empty building plots with vegetation on them. A couple of roads back there are obviously poorer dwellings with corrugated iron fences and a few stray dogs, although the locals seemed friendly enough. If you walk through this, you get to the sea, but it's more mud than sand with some fishing boats on it. Got some great photo's there as the sun set. Personally feel a car is pretty essential to make the most of the visit. There are sandy beaches 5 minutes drive in either direction and we returned repeatedly to Le Morne which is the stunning beach in the profile photo for swimming and kite surfing. The house is well placed for walkers too with the Chamarel entrance to the national park a short drive away, and about 25 minutes drive to the main park entrance with car parks and several different walk combinations. Research beforehand though and print off info, park office has no printed maps and take deet to repel biting...

Marc's home was really comfortable. I enjoyed the peace and quiet, the breakfast was absolutely delicious, lot's to do and see around Le Mourne. I do wish I had more time at this fantastic accomodation.

We are a mixed couple. My wife Corinne is indian / creole origin and I am (Berlin) german born with indian roots. Both of our kids were born in Mauritius. We love nature, peace, heritage and culture. My wife is a brilliant cook and loves to serve to guests. Our house we designed and built by ourselves. Decorated with antiques and souvenirs from all over were we traveled to. Since we opened our B&B in 2006 we hosted more than 2000 guests and got loads of new friends which visit us again and again. We know Mauritius from the perspective of a visitor better than any tour operator or taxi driver, just be curious to discover !
The International Airport of Mauritius is one hour by car away. We can offer a taxi transfer which is 2000rs. per trip. As well we can help to organize a Rental Car for 1200 rs. per day. Available at the airport or any other place in Mauritius.
A large Supermarket is in 1.5 km distance. A restaurant and a bus stop is just around the corner. Plenty of choices for lunch and dining you will find in walking distance, around 1 km.
