This was a fantastic hostel for our children's first experience! Welcoming hostesses, children, too! Places to roam and play (wonderful park by the campground). Comfortable rental comforters. Clean, open community spaces. Cheerful, nature-focused decor with Scouts highlighted.

When I checked-in, a staff hosted nicely. The building is clean, but a little bit smell, which might come from a kitchen. The location is far from the town, so it's a nice place, but a little unconvinient to go to downtown, and join a tour. When I came back from a daytrip at midnight arranged by a travel tour company, they didn't dropped me off to the hostel. I had to walk about 15 mins without internet access.

This is a hostel run by an Icelandic scout group, so you will probably see groups of youngsters playing on the grounds at some point. Lava Hostel is outside of town but it's a very easy 25-minute bus ride on Line 1 to downtown Reykjavik. It's one of the cutest I've seen, from the perfectly clean rooms to the fluffy cornflower blue comforters and a sweet seating area inside the rooms. The decor is rustic and reminiscent of outdoor adventures. This is an unusual hostel in that it serves multiple purposes and is integrated into the community. I highly recommend it.
