The space

Welcome! Thanks for checking out our site...!

We're offering a very unique and handcrafted, spacious, lower level, one-bedroom that has been thoroughly and thoughtfully designed and built to reflect both Old World, natural building practices and Modern, eco-sensibilities. This space is both aesthetically beautiful and comfortable, with numerous hand hewn details throughout.

From the lush, tree-lined street below, one ascends the stone steps to arrive at the mindfully appointed garden-level, private patio and entry. Upon arriving, one might notice the attention to detail in the EXQUISITE WORKMANSHIP and JAPANESE CARPENTRY, from the handmade doors and windows to the framing. Once inside, one is immediately welcomed by the warmth of the natural, clay walls, the wood beamed ceiling, and the sunny dinning nook. The kitchen boost professional, stainless appliances, granite counter tops and handmade cabinetry. The bathroom has reclaimed, cedar siding, and an artistic combination of tile, stone and glass. The living room is well appointed and cozy, with warm fir flooring, handmade furniture, a Danish-modern sleeper sofa, and a Norwegian gas stove/fireplace. The bedroom has a walk in closet, and a new queen mattress and frame with Organic duvet with goose down fill. Throughout the space, the walls are hung with original art showcasing local artist.

Nested just one block from trendy and mod Mississippi Street, one has ample and easy access to some of Portland's best shops, restaurants, bars and breweries, music venues, boutiques, coffee houses, and yoga studios. It's within a short walking distance to major bus lines and our neighborhood MAX train/lightrail station, with easy access to highways. Our street is also a city designated bike road. We are only minutes from other local hotspots like Alberta Arts District, Downtown and the Pearl. Getting around town from here couldn't be easier.
*Special Note: The Stone stairs leading up to the unit from the street are irregular and can be difficult especially for older guest and guest with disabilities so please take this into consideration before booking.

Other things to note

Parking is not a problem on our street and there is almost always a spot directly in front of the house, it is free and no permit is required.

We had a wonderful time at this beautiful property, situated in a secluded spot in an otherwise buzzing area of Portland. David was a great host, meeting us on arrival and giving us the information we needed to settle in. Accessing downtown was easy by public transport and by car. But the local area itself was enough of a draw not to bother, with great bars, cafes and restaurants. The property itself is beautiful and a haven of tranquillity. We were very sorry to leave after 3 great nights.

It was a pleasure and privilege to stay in this unique and beautiful place. David was very helpful prior to our arrival and met us for a chat and to give us some ideas during our stay. Take the time to appreciate the hand crafted features here and enjoy. A large shower and well designed kitchen were both excellent features here and the location was perfect. We didn't move the car in the 5 nights that we were here, either walking or using public transport to get everywhere and there are so many place to eat, drink etc. The local wine and chocolate were also a lovely touch. Many thanks David and good luck!!

David's beautiful apartment was everything he described and more! We found it a very peaceful place and the neighbourhood is gorgeous; a quite leafy little street, yet just around the corner from the buzz of Mississippi Avenue which offers lots of places to eat, drink, hang out and catch some live music. David was very welcoming and gave us tips for getting around the city and places we should see. Our suitcase broke on our travels and lost a wheel when we arrived in Portland, so we had to buy a new one. David kindly helped us dispose of our old one which was really kind, and really helped us as we didn't have a car. Thanks David! :) Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others!

David is a wonderful host and he has a beautiful home in Portland. He greeted us warmly on check in and gave us a tour. One morning he brought down milk for our coffees. And on the last day I unfortunately had to rush out in a hurry to catch my fight and left behind toiletries, which he offered to return mail - thank you so much!!! I couldn't recommend this place more. David sets a very high standard for airbnb hosts!

David's house is amazing. Great location near Mississippi avenue which is a great artsy hipster spot and easily commutable to the Alberta arts district. David has thought of everything from construction of the property and little nuances in the craftsmanship to catering to your needs on arrival. It was thoroughly enjoyable!

Native of the Pacific Northwest, I'm a Design/Builder, specializing in Japanese Traditional Carpentry and Old World natural building. I'm also licensed in 'Chado' the Japanese way of tea, which is my main stem of study within Japanese architecture. This recently completed unit is not a tea house but is an attempt to mix Japanese and a Western aesthetic through a common natural link. With the hope of sharing the beauty of Japanese woodworking to a wider range of people. I hope you enjoy!
