About this listing
This spacious, clean and tastefully furnished first floor apartment offers a comfy and convenient base for seeing Mysore. It has a double bedroom with attached bathroom/toilet, dining room with breakfast bar, sitting room and private roof terrace.
Tucked away above the Damodaran family's home, Rooftop Retreat provides a welcome space to relax in after a hard day's sightseeing! The bedroom boasts one large double or two twin beds with mosquito nets, an attached shower room, and western style toilet. The dining room, equipped with dining table and breakfast bar, doubles as a place to write your diary or postcards, and the sitting room contains a small library, board games, and a TV tuned to many English language channels. From the window you can watch everyday life unfold in the street below, and from the roof terrace you can look out toward Chamundi hill and the town.
The climate in Mysore is pleasant for most of the year and there are ceiling fans throughout the flat, but air conditioning is provided in the bedroom for those who want it. Indian or western breakfasts are included in the room rate, and Kamla and her daughter prepare delicious teatime specialities and tasty dinners on request, which you can enjoy in the flat or al fresco on the roof terrace. You can prepare your own simple snacks or hot drinks at any time. Coffee (instant and real), tea bags and sugar and milk powder are provided. There is a kettle, refrigerator, toaster and coffee maker.
Interaction with guests
You will be guaranteed the warmest of welcomes by the Damodaran family if you stay here, and Nivya will help with any onward bookings or local information you need.
However, as the apartment is accessed by steps at the side of the house and has its own entrance, guests can enjoy complete privacy whenever they wish.
Rooftop Retreat is situated in Gayathripuram, a green and quiet residential area, slightly raised on a hillside overlooking the city. The local inhabitants range from those of very modest income to the more middle class, and traditional home industries like joss stick making are carried out here. Guests usually enjoy walking around the area. There are several small shopping areas nearby, and several parks.
The centre of Mysore city is easily accessed by auto rickshaw in around 8-10 minutes, and buses also ply. The distance can be walked in half an hour. The cost of public transport is very low. Nivya can arrange autorickshaws for you, or taxis for longer trips.
The family ask that you do not smoke in the flat, and when outside, that you observe local codes of dress and behaviour, as this will enhance both your own enjoyment, and that of future guests.
