I will introduce guests to the flat, and will provide information about transport, local amenities and sightseeing, and help you with purchasing public transport passes, if needed. If you have any particular requests or questions, just ask.

The neighbourhood

The flat is in walking distance of the city center, and many tourist destinations can be reached by walking, or depending on where you want to go, by taking a few stops on the tram or U-Bahn.

I will focus here on some local attractions and will not list all the famous tourist destinations in the city centre, which you can find in any guide book.

The Karmeliterviertel in recent years has become a very popular neighbourhood, with many restaurants, bars and cafes on and in the vicinity of the Karmelitermarkt market square, which is about 5-7 minutes walking distance from the flat. On Saturday morning the farmer's market is buzzing with shoppers for gourmet produce or having breakfast in one of the cafes on the market. I am happy to give you tips for the best places to eat and drink. Please scroll down until you find the map, where I have highlighted some shops and restaurants.

Augarten: If you like taking leisurely walks, or running or riding a bicycle the Augarten park is very close by, as well as the Donaukanal area and the Prater. There are several nice cafes and restaurants dotted around the Augarten, which plenty of outdoor seating, for spending a pleasant time especially on a sunny day in spring, summer and autumn.

Every summer there is an open air cinema festival hosted at the Augarten. The Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, a venue for contemporary art and the Muth, a new concert venue are only a few minutes away from the flat.

Donaukanal: The Donaukanal is a stretch along the canal near Schwedenplatz is very popular, for walking, running, cycling or just hanging out. In the summer it is busy with restaurants, "beach" bars, and clubs. The Flex, one of Vienna's most popular clubbing venues, is located at the Donaukanal.

Prater: The Prater is a very large forested park ideal for jogging, cycling, or a picknick. In walking distance from the flat near the Praterstern is the "Wurstelprater," Vienna's oldest amusement park featuring the famous Ferris Wheel.

Shops: There is a supermarket (Penny) about a minute away, and several more (Spar, Hofer, Billa) close by (see map below). Taborstrasse is the local high street, leading into the city centre, lined with bakeries, cafes, drug stores, banks, post office, and many other shops. And of course, there is the Karmelitermarkt, with the farmer's market on Saturday mornings.

If you click on the guidebook map below, I have marked some of the shops and restaurants and my favourite traditional coffee houses in the city centre.

Getting around

Perfect central location close to the city center and tourist attractions in walking distance. Ideal for commuting, for example to the Vienna University, or Opera/Karlsplatz area, as the U2 takes you there in ten minutes. Webster University is in walking distance, Vienna University and the new University of Economics can be reached within two stops on the U-Bahn. The location is also convenient to reach the Vienna International Centre.

Public Transport: U-Bahn (Underground) Station Taborstrasse (U2) and No. 2 tram are in one minute walking distance.

The train station (Praterstern) is also in reasonably close distance (one stop with U-Bahn). (You can take a cheap local train from the airport to Praterstern, if you prefer not to spend money on a taxi.)

Bicycles: You can rent a Citybike outside the U-Bahnstation, all you need is a credit card.

A taxi stand is about 2 minutes away. A taxi should cost about 30 - 35 Euros from or to the airport.

Write to me if you need detailed instructions on how to get to the flat via public transport.
