Hitchin Historic Market town is rich in history and architecture. Hitchin has something for everyone and there's plenty to see and do. It has an attractive Market Square and walking around the parish church of St Mary, right in the centre of the town, one sees that Hitchin's medieval plan has altered amazingly little from the time the church was built. The streets radiate outwards with markets, shops, and a charming riverside frontage close at hand. Every street contains buildings of interest and the town's history can be traced in them. Our house is a 10 minute walk to Hitchin train station with high speed trains taking only 30 minutes to arrive into Kiings Cross London (which connects to the London Underground) and 30 minutes to the beautiful University City of Cambridge. It is just half an hours drive to the historic City of St. Albans and 40 minutes drive to Cambridge. Day trips can also be taken to visit Historic Hatfield house 30 minutes drive away or 20 minutes by train or Knebworth House a 15 minute (website hidden). St. Pauls Walden Bury the former home of The Queen Mother, is only a 10 minute drive away. The Beautiful village of Ayot St. Lawrence and the home of Sir George Bernard Shaw is a 15 minute drive from Hitchin. In the Summer months plays are performed in the garden. The countryside and rural villages around Hitchin are very picturesque and there are plenty of wonderful walking and cycling routes in Hitchin and the Northern Chilterns. The Pegsdon Hills, Barton Hills National Nature Reserve and Sharpenhoe Clappers are the gems of this area, swathed in wildflowers in spring and summer. They also provide stunning viewpoints over the rolling hills.
Convenient for Luton airport which is only 9 miles away. It is a 10 minute walk to Hitchin train station with high speed trains taking only 30 minutes to arrive into Kings Cross London (which connects to the London Underground).
