The space

This mountain vacation retreat is comfortable and spacious, surrounded by meadows and towering pines. This quiet retreat is two minutes from the town beach on lovely Loon Lake, close to many hiking trails, but just 10 minutes from the interstate, 8 minutes from shopping in Chestertown, 20 minutes from skiing on Gore Mountain. Several restaurants are nearby.

5 bedrooms, 1 with a queen, 1 with a full bed and 1 twin bed, 1 with a full bed, 1 with a twin and a trundle bed, 1 with a bunk bed and twin. Three full bathrooms and 2 screened porches.

The house is comfortably furnished, with a fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher, microwave and toaster oven, washer/dryer, and lots of games, books and puzzles. There is a gas grill for outdoor cooking on the un-screened part of the large porch. The walk-out lower level family room has a ping pong table, large USGS topographical (URL HIDDEN) map of the Adirondacks for planning your excursions and hikes. There is also a telescope for gazing at the stars without any distracting city lights.

The house is less than 10 years old. The exterior Adirondack-siding of bark-trimmed boards is made from trees grown on the site.

There is a large screened porch with a generous dining table that seats 10 easily. The smaller screened porch is off the master bedroom.

On the lower walk-out level, there is one large bedroom with 1 double bed and 1 single with an attached full bathroom (with a bathtub) that also has a door to the family room with the ping pong table. That level also has another bedroom with a double bed and a bunk room with 2 bunk beds and 1 single.

On the main floor, the great room has a high sloped ceiling, facing a wall of windows. All the windows throughout the house have lovely views of meadows and forest. At one end of the great room is the kitchen with a door to the large screened porch. Next to the kitchen and its games shelves is the dining table that seats 6. The center of the great room has a bay window overlooking the large meadow. Opposite that is the reading nook with a comfortable leather chair and boat-shaped bookcase. At the far end of the great room from the kitchen is a futon and loveseat that bracket the propane fireplace. There is also a TV set for watching DVDs and videos. We have some, but feel free to bring your own. (No cable)

Also on the main floor are two bedrooms and two full, accessible bathrooms. The master bedroom has queen-sized bed, handmade quilt on the wall, and small screened porch with two Adirondack chairs; the other single bedroom has with its own exterior door and ramp. Both bedrooms open onto a large bathroom with a walk-in shower and walls of tile and pine paneling. Another bathroom opens to the great room.

Free skiing at Chestertown recreation side, Dynamite Hill, just 10 minutes away.
Lake George Village is 20 minutes away
Saratoga Springs is 45 minutes away.

Guest access

Meadow House is available for up to 12 people. There is a TV set hooked up to a DVD and a video player. We have cable but with a limited number of stations. We have several movies or you could bring your own.
The back basement and the small boat that is under cover are off limits.

Interaction with guests

We live in Baltimore, so unfortunately we are not always able to interact with guests (though we would like to). We are quickly available by phone and internet. We do have people available in the area who act as our backup.

Other things to note

The house is very wheelchair friendly to accommodate family members with varying needs. Both entrances to the main floor are accessible by ramps. The lower level entrance is barrier-free. All the doors are designed to be wheelchair friendly. They are either pocket doors that slide open or double doors that are easy to maneuver through. All three bathrooms are built to be accessible. The showers in both main floor bathrooms are roll-in. The sinks all are designed to be easy access from a wheelchair. The main and lower levels are joined by a staircase with double banisters and the lower level can be accessed by using the (fairly steep) driveway.
We also have lots of tall family members. The doors accommodate a 7-footer without bending over. The windows are designed to delight everyone from little children to the very tall.

It is clear that Ann and her family have put a lot of thought and care into making this house a terrific rental property. The house was accurately described in the listing, and Ann was definitely a wonderful host. She responded quickly to any questions we had. There was plenty of room for two families of 5, and we all had a wonderful time!

It's a great house with lots of room to be together but also to be alone. Plus the proximity of the town, the beach, and beautiful homes made it a great weekend. Also the hosts were very helpful and kind

Great hosts, super communicative but gave us our space, took care of everything and made special accommodations. Our son is in a wheelchair. The place was perfect, very accessible. Gravel drive to get from top floor to bottom floor, worked fine for us - he slept downstairs. Every bathroom was perfect for him, plenty of space in the whole house. House wonderfully stocked with books, games, and puzzles. We brought our own stuff to read and do, and had some plans for outings, but the house itself was so fun (for quiet types like us) that we mostly just had fun with that stuff. Kitchen great. We are big cooks, and found everything we needed. Nearby rural grocery store surprisingly good. House isn't on the water, obviously, but pretty lakes and nice hikes very close by. For us, it was more like a country getaway than a lake house - which is just how they advertise it. Everything spacious, pleasant, peaceful, clean. Overall, we loved it. Thank you Ann!

Response from Ann:
We loved having you & your family, Eric. Hope you'll return. We would also like to encourage other families with people who use wheelchairs. The house is designed to accommodate a family that goes from wheelchairs to the very, very tall. Incidentally, we are open to donating the use of the house to nonprofits who need accommodations for people in wheelchairs, whether for outings or for fundraising raffles, assuming this is for dates that are not already booked, of course.

We had a great time at Ann's house. We loved that we could walk to the lake, while also having Lake George and LG Village be accessible by car. The house was lovely, with tons of space for our group to hang out in (there were lots of board games, and we loved the ping pong table). Eating meals on the porch was my favorite part!
