View from the bed to the kitchen area. This is the Safeway. It is across the street. Very very unusual for any of the condos downtown to have a great grocery store so close.

The space

We ask for stays to be for 3 nights. For dates covering bank and national holidays (New Years, MLK, Jr., Presidents' , Easter, Memorial, July 4th, Labor, Thanksgiving and Christmas) our request is for 4 nights.
Also, we require guests to have been verified through the AirBnB verification process.
There is no TV or cable, no AC.
There is everything you need for easy living - a dining table that pulls out easily to accommodate four. The double bed is platform with a standard mattress. The pull out double bed (Ikea Couch) is amazingly comfortable, smart and easy to get in place. It sits well and sleeps two adults well. The linens for the couch can be found in the “hidden compartment" under the shorter of the sofa cushions—just lift up and voila!

High-speed internet, full-size washer & dryer, iron and small ironing board

The kitchen is fully stocked with basic cookware including oven, microwave, refrigerator, coffee pot, pasta pot and strainer, non-stick egg pan, stainless steel wok, and electric kettle. There is a gas stovetop and a dishwasher. Servingware includes plates, bowls, mugs, juice, water, wine, beer and champagne glasses, and flatware.

Basic ingredients for cooking are provided and you should find standard spices, sugars and condiments (mayo, ketchup, mustard, butter), oils and balsamic vinegar, teas and ground coffee. Other basic items for living include bath, dish and hand washing soaps, shampoo, clothes washer detergents, towels and paper napkins.

Lark About has ample fresh air via a sliding door (no balcony – see photo) and two transom windows. It also has well-insulated walls and doors.

Guest access

We call it Lark About - that phrase is defined as: to play boisterously, to engage in harmless fun or mischief. You can call this place your own and do all your fun from here. You can have us meet you and check in, but most folks like using the lockbox and settling themselves in. We will be close by and always look for a text to know our guests have made it into the Lark and all is well.

Interaction with guests

We will be available throughout your stay. Our home is minutes away. We are always happy to share recommendations or scout out something you might need to know about. When we travel, we just want to manage everything for ourselves without interacting with the host. So that is how we host. We are happy to meet you and help you get settled though -- so just let us know your preference!

The neighbourhood

It is in the heart of the Cultural Arts District, but is also close to what could be called the Financial and Legal District.

Shopping, dining, Farmers Market, Museums, Theaters, Providence Park -- all within walking distance. Walk to Timbers & Thorns Games! Portland State University, Lincoln High School and St. Mary's also within a few blocks!

Lark About is close to almost everything of fun in the downtown area: Park Blocks and its famous Saturday morning Farmer’s Market, Portland State University, McCall Waterfront where most festivals are held, Pioneer Place, Powell’s Books, the beautiful Central Library, Art and History Museums, Providence Park for Timber and other sports events.
A Safeway is across the street!
The Old Church, venue for concerts and weddings, is next door.
The famous Saturday Market (near VooDoo Donuts) and the Pearl District are not what could be considered “close,” but they are also easily reachable on foot, bike, streetcar or Max.

Lark About is perfect for those needing long or short term access to OHSU Hospital and its various satellite facilities (Doernbecker Childrens, Shriners, VA Hospital, Eye and Dental Institutes, and the Medical School). The streetcar stop almost across the street takes you on a short ride to the Tram and you ride from there right to the heart of OHSU.

Getting around

Lark About is accessible via Portland’s mass transit. The “Max,” the Streetcars and the buses all have stops within a short, or very short distance.
Lark About is easy to find via the highways as well. There is close access from Highway 26 (Sunset Highway) East and 405 North and South.
No parking is included, but monthly/ daily lots within 1 block.
Also - who needs one? Streetcar stops across the street and bus and Max all close (as is ZipCar and bike rentals)

Other things to note

There is not a TV -- sports bars are nearby and funner to watch sports there!

Lark About is not air conditioned. Given Portland’s propensity for remarkably chilly nights even after the warmest of days, though, it usually just requires a bit of planning in the evening and/or early morning. Open the transoms and/or sliding door when it turns cooler. Close the blinds and the transoms/sliding door before about 8am and the place should stay quite cool. There is also a ceiling fan for circulation.

The condo is DOWNTOWN – as such and when the transoms and slider are open, it has the expected noise of conversations from people on the street, cars and delivery trucks passing and sirens (rare), but not the highway.
One person’s noisy is another person’s finger on the pulse of a city. The parking garage exit across the street has a required sound for warning pedestrians but it also has probably the least obnoxious warning sound possible: a lovely, almost melodious bing-bing. Ironically, the streetcar (which you would expect would be the most annoying sound coming from the street) makes very little noise. As stated, these sounds are all more obvious if the transoms and sliding door are open. If you want it to be more quiet, close the transoms windows and sliding door. The difference is marked.

This is an amazingly beautiful apartment--all glass with a cozy glass fireplace. What a place to spend a snowstorm! Very centrally located, everything worked great. Hosts were easily accessible. Terrific!

This is a clean well-appointed studio apartment in downtown Portland where there's a mix of high density apartments and businesses. There aren't a lot of shops or restaurants in these blocks but it's a close walk to so many wonderful downtown things and there's easy access to the street car, max, bus, and freeway. Parking for multiple days was a bit of a hassle but doable. The apartment itself is clean and comfortable. It has all the amenities you need for a good stay, even cooking in. It's a studio so if you're coming with your kids or another couple expect no privacy including auditory privacy. That said the pull out couch worked great for my kids. The hosts were super caring and responsive. They carefully checked in with us to make sure the neighborhood and active noise level of downtown were a fit for us. It turned out the noise did bother us in terms of sleep quality, so perhaps not ideal for those who are sound sensitive even if you're used to a city. We live in a city arterial elsewhere but the noise here bothered us anyway. i definitely recommend the hosts and the location if you're a sound sleeper looking for a central location at a decent price.

Pete and Lee were very accurate and detailed in their instructions. By the time I arrived, everything was straightforward. The place itself was cozy and we made ourselves comfortable immediately. It was the perfect location as pretty much everything we did in Portland was within walking distance. Thank you so much!
