Neighbourhood highlights

History of the Dhuys district: "A western extension of the Belleville plateau, this suburban district owes its name to a small river of the Aisne, the Dhuys, captured a few kilometers from its source and supplying the capital with water through an aqueduct 131 km long.

Built by engineer Eugène Belgrand in 1865, this underground aqueduct crosses Bagnolet in its northern part and transports the water to the Ménilmontant Reservoir.

In 1895, the obtinent municipality of the City of Paris, which used to own this footprint, has the right to convert it into a public walk. Guinguettes then settled there in large numbers and the place became a popular Sunday meeting place for Parisians."

Today it is a quiet pavilion area touching Les Lilas and Paris.
