The space

Hike or run the Mesa trail. Visiting scientists (from Belgium, Korea, and China) have stayed here to work at NCAR, an easy bike ride up the hill. NIST is a 15 - 20-minute walk; NCAR is 15 minutes; I've walked to CU in 15 - 20 minutes.

Guest access

Our guest bedroom has oak floors, a queen bed, and an attached private full bath for your exclusive use. A second half bath is available for guests in the hall across from the rooms. I live here alone, and my bedroom and study are upstairs, in another wing of the house ( above the living room), so you'll have complete privacy.
The second guest bedroom has a queen futon. This room is available if there are 3 or more people. For two guests who want separate rooms, please either write to me to arrange this, or check in as 3 guests. There's an extra charge for the second bedroom (my cleaning lady charges me extra). So, please, book as 3 persons to have separate rooms. Or check my other site on Airbnb, 2 bedrooms in a 4-bedroom house.
We have WiFi, but no cable TV.
You're welcome to enjoy the view from the back deck, use the BBQ, and picnic tables on the deck (in summer).

Interaction with guests

If I'm in town, I can try to answer questions — particularly about rock climbing or nearby hiking trails. I teach skiing for Vail Resorts and can offer suggestions about where and when to ski. If I'm in town, I will have fruit available. I do have a good supply of (mostly herbal) teas on hand. There's space in the fridge for your favorite breakfast treats.

Other things to note

Our dog, Nanda Devi, is a 14-year old type of Swiss mountain dog — an Entlebucher Sennenhund. She's noisy at first and will bark to get your attention, but once she knows you, she quickly morphs into a glutton for attention.

This home is in a really great part of Boulder. Hiking just out the door and minutes to the downtown. Sibylle is very nice and was helpful in thinking about places to visit around Boulder. The room and bathroom are fine - nothing particularly special or memorable. It was extremely hot in Boulder when we were there and the room was very warm. We believe the house might be air conditioned but it didn't reach the room we were in and there was no fan.

Response from Sibylle:
Hi Heather, I'm sorry that you were hot, and I wish you'd told us. We do have a stand-alone fan we cold have given you. We will leave the fan next to the room from now on. the entire house is cooled by a swamp cooler, which sits on the roof, and blows cold air through the house. It works by positive pressure, so air enters the room through an open door, and leaves via a cracked window. We had the swamp cooler on low cool, and could have turned it up to high cool, if we had known your room was too warm.

Though we only met briefly, Sibylle was welcoming, and communicative. Her place is as the pictures show: clean, peaceful, and great access to trails for running.

Sybille is a very warm and welcoming host. Her home is extremely close to the Flatirons and TONS of hiking. It's also far enough from the city to get some great star gazing, but close enough to take a quick drive to nightlife in downtown Boulder.

I'm not going to recommend this listing because it is too expensive for the run-down nature of the home. Take 20-30% off the price and set expectations better next time!

Response from Sibylle:
This is my own home, and I live here most of the time. I teach skiing part time at Beaver Creek and stay in Avon when I work over Christmas, MLK and President's week, and two weeks in March. I let guests know that I'm not available to show them around during these times. I'm sorry that you had problems with the Bosch dishwasher. It's German, and perhaps has different controls than what you usually use. I'll make sure to replace the missing light bulbs.

I'm a freelance writer and also teach skiing at Beaver Creek. In summer, I rock climb and wrote one guide book to climbing in Colorado, co-authored a guide to climbing in Utah, and have written articles for various climbing magazines and journals. I like to climb in Yosemite, Squamish, Canada, as well as the limestone cliffs of Italy, France, and Spain. I've also been on expeditions to the Himalaya (Everest, 1988; Shishapangma, 1994; Ak-Su in Kyrgyzstan, 1987), and have brief interviews in the movies "Vertical Frontier" and "Brave New wild"
