Other things to note
You will need to take the ferry from Gallanach Road, about 2 miles outside of Oban. Check out the Calmac website for the timetable. In summer they run a very regular service every half hour, slightly less so in winter. There are no ferries between 12:30pm and 2pm and the last scheduled ferry is 6pm. You can arrange a 7pm boat by contacting Calmac.

You must book your ferry tickets in advance from the Calmac website. Information on how to do this will be sent to you when you book. The cost is £3.40 for a return ticket. It’s a short ferry ride taking about 5 minutes in total.

The island has an islanders car only policy due to the nature of our roads (you will understand once you have seen them!) so you will need to leave your car in the free car park at the ferry slip on Gallanach Road.

Neighbourhood highlights

The Isle of Kerrera is a beautiful unspoilt island known as the jewel in the Firth of Lorne. With a population of only 65 residents, the islands natural beauty and abundant wildlife make it a very popular tourist attraction. It is situated only 650m away from the mainland so is easily accessible. Once you are on the island it feels like you are a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the mainland.

The island is popular through the day with visitors visiting the beautiful ruined castle on the rugged southern coast and immersing themselves in the amazing wildlife. Bird watchers and animal lovers will be delighted with the opportunity to see sea eagles, golden eagles, buzzards, ravens, wild goats, sea otters, seals, porpoises and bottle nose dolphins. If your lucky you might spot our resident sea otter in the bay (for early risers only) and the seals that have their colony a few hundred metres south of the bay, who pop in and out every so often.

The chalet is perfect for couples, families, sailors, nature lovers, sea kayakers, groups of walkers, bird watchers and anyone who loves remoteness and extraordinary scenery. Spend your days walking, cycling, wild swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, bird watching or simply relax and kick back on the deck watching the tide and day ebb in and out.

Families will love the freedom to run on the beach, splash in the bay, climb on the rocks and adventure out along the rugged coastline to the castle and secluded beaches. Kayakers and paddle boarders will enjoy exploring our rocky coastline before beaching your boats or boards in the sheltered bay below the chalet. The bay is perfect for wild swimmers, bring your wetsuits or take a dip in your costume if you can brave the cold Scottish water!

Whatever your holiday plan may be, make sure you take the time to kick back, relax and soak up the special atmosphere and stunning scenery that is unique to the wild west coast of Scotland.

There is Tea garden at the south end of the island near Gylen Castle, a marina at the north end with a restaurant and bar, and then 2 small farm shops which sell their own meat, eggs and ice cream! Check out Ballimore Farm for more info. There are no bank facilities on the island so come prepared!

The busy holiday town of Oban is only a short ferry ride away with its excellent seafood restaurants and shops, as well as a cinema and leisure centre. There is a wealth of things for all the family to enjoy on land and on the sea. Known as the Gateway to the Isles Oban is a perfect start for exploring the inner Hebridean Isles, including Mull, Iona and Colonsey

Whatever your interests, the island has something for everyone, and our chalet provides the ideal base from which to explore and enjoy it.
