Came into town for a football game with my family and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. A close drive to all the major attractions of Tampa and the house was clean and spacious. The cottage out back provided a second completely furnished private residence. If we return to Tampa we will stay here again. Communication was quick and easy.

Jeff was offering his place half off for Hurricane evacuees. I am a Storm Chaser from Austin, Texas, and when Jeff couldn't fill the rental during the hurricane (due to its shifting trajectory over Tampa) Jeff offered the place to me for rent. It was a very nice house in a great neighborhood. I highly suggest getting yourself some Cappy's Pizza when you are there.

Overall we had a great time in Tampa visiting family and Jeff's place worked out great. We're super hosts as well and I always appreciate when folks leave a pros cons review. Pros: Great location in a fantastic area of tampa. Very close to the Zoo, downtown, and some world class restaurants. House is very nicely decorated, we loved the large front porch and beautiful outdoors area in the back. Although you dont communicate directly with the host, you communicate with local property managers they were very responsive. Nice bathrooms - huge shower in the master! Cons: The additional house was extremely hot and very musty when we arrived, it was completely unusable. The wall units were not on, I would recommend they always keep them running in advance of a guests arrival. Even after the temp cooled off in there the next day it was very moist/musty so we did not use it at all. We inquired in advance about a blender that we need everyday for medically necessary foods. When we arrived there was no such blender which was very frustrating. I will say I texted the house managers and the next day they brought a new one from the store. The house could use a deep clean. You can tell it's kept up with after each guest but fans, mantles, blinds, etc are pretty dusty.

Response from Jeff:
We appreciate the feedback in terms of the deep clean. I will investigate this immediately. Our managers and cleaning crew were shocked to see how dirty you left the place, including dirty dishes and more. As a super host, we expected much better. It's always hosts that are most critical, and with the hundreds of people we have had stay at our property, we have never had someone claim that the cottage was unusable - that's just simply not true AT all. There are two wall units in the cottage and it only takes about 30-45 minutes to cool down. The cottage at The Hiawatha House is an absolute gem and is widely loved by 99.9% of our guests. Of course I didn't leave negative feedback for how filthy you left the house, as I tend to let things go with the cleaning fee we charge and because you have a kid. You also did not tell us that the blender was needed for medical reasons, or we would have been absolutely positive it was there for you. It's still a mystery as to what happened to the original blender we had there. We delivered a new blender before 8am once learning the situation. Also, we communicated plenty before and during your stay - I was out of country, and I have two wonderful managers to contact if you cannot reach me due to time change restraints from international travel. I regret taking the high road on your review, as you left the house filthy. Very disappointing from a fellow super host, but I chose to let it go. It doesn't surprise me, as the only two negative reviews I have ever received have come from other hosts, including one host that is competition in the neighborhood, and now you. I don't mind getting feedback about the place needing a deep clean, which I take extremely seriously. Saying the cottage is unusable is offensive and absurd, and is not even remotely true. I ask future guests to read the rest of our reviews to squash this ridiculous claim, and feel free to contact me direct anytime.

I am a musician, traveler, and real estate professional. I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, and started my real estate career in 1998, also the year I bought my first house. I moved to Los Angeles, to Venice Beach, in 2012. I love it here, but there's also no place like home! I am eager for people to experience my home city through my eyes. I am always available for recommendations on dining, events, venues, activities, parks etc. I spent the first 30 years of my life in Tampa, and it will always be home to me!
