Guest access

In addition to your room, you have access to the main level of the house including kitchen, TV room, living and dining areas as well as the yard.

The neighbourhood

We are fortunate to have three state parks within 15 miles of us: Cottonwood Canyon State Park on the John Day River, Maryhill State Park on the Columbia River, and Deschutes State Park on the Deschutes River.

Other things to note

There is a small, well-stocked grocery store in town, as well as a gift/coffee shop, restaurant-tavern, an ATM, and a beauty shop. The nearest gas station is nine miles away, so if you plan to do some exploring by automobile, be sure to arrive with a full tank of gas.

The home is spotless and full of small, efficient conveniences, including the Keurig coffee maker, the recycling closet and the refillable shampoo/gel container in the shower. Gail left yummy mini-loaves of banana bread and zucchini bread for us. She was cheerful and happy to tell us everything we needed to know but also very sensitive to our privacy. My sister and I were busy with a big project but we enjoyed when she stopped in to check on us. The view out the picture window was beautiful and our sunny evening on the deck gazing over the wheat field at Mts. Adams and Rainier was just what we needed to separate us from our work weeks and start our weekend project.

Gail is a warm and thoughtful host. Her home is comfortable and inviting, spotlessly clean, and quiet. I was traveling by myself and felt safe and secure there. The neighborhood is a sleepy small town tucked away in the golden wheat fields. It is easy to access the Deschutes River State Park, the Maryhill Museum of Art, and Maryhill Winery/amphitheater. I appreciated Gail's efforts to make her home a welcome retreat for guests. The towels are soft and fluffy. Plus, the bed in the blue guest room is extremely comfortable! I am recovering from a back injury and slept well my whole stay -- can't say that for many places! The sunrises on the Gorge cliffs are lovely, and the sunsets are beautiful too.
