The space

Located on 112 bucolic acres off quiet County road, this peaceful place is part of a historic German homestead, lovingly restored by owners in late 1960's and furnished with Texas primitives. Was our weekend escape from Houston for almost 50 years until we retired here to live full time in late 2011.

One bedroom with high ceilings. Kitchenette includes dbl. electric burner, griddle, microwave, refrigerator and sink. Full bathroom with shower/tub, sink and toilet.

Private front porch is ready and waiting with rocking chairs for you to enjoy the colorful Texas sunrise and see the native deer emerge from the woods at dusk. Ducks splash playfully on pond, and free-range chickens cluck peacefully as they scratch through leaves.

The charm here is a quiet country stay. Hear nature's sounds: the wind in the trees, the birds, the coyotes in the distance, the Owls hooting, and nature's peace. We would love to share it with you.

We want you to enjoy yourselves but we ask that there is no smoking, and no big parties.
Because we have our own pets (2 cats), free roaming chickens, and ducks on our pond, we request that you bring no animals for your stay, and hope you understand.

Check-out time is 12 pm to give us time to prepare the cottage for our next guests as we did for you.

We hope you enjoy your stay so much you'll want to come again and again.

Born and raised in Houston, Texas. After college, I worked in designing and maintaining landscapes, both residential and commercial; my focus was on using native or adapted plants common to the area, (Houston, Austin, and Moab, Utah) and creating a low water, low maintenance landscape that blended in to its surroundings, attracting birds, bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies.
I am now managing our family farm near Round Top, Texas, overseeing the care of horses, cattle, chickens, and ducks. We are planting native grasses and shrubs, adding more ponds (or as they say here in Texas ”tanks”) with the guidance of the Washington County Extension Department. Our goal is to provide and enhance a natural habitat for wildlife on our acreage. In addition, we are constantly at work maintaining our 1840’s guest cabin, and our 1870’s main house, with the old barns, etc.
Recently I have become very involved with raising funds to restore early 1800’s buildings at The Winedale Historical Center near Round Top. It is home to some of the finest examples of early German pioneer settlement houses in Texas, and boasts the extent of the expertise in architecture and design of that time. Currently President of the 501(c) 3 corporation “Friends of Winedale”, we are working with experts from The Briscoe Historical Center in Austin own the property and are overseeing the repairs and restoration.
I love living in “this neck of the woods”, and being out, free to roam in God’s Country.
